For the last six weeks or so at work, I've been having a lot of issues browsing certain websites, specifically suppliers catalogues and that kind of thing.

We're still on XP SP3, at the time running IE8, but I've since installed Chrome, and not got anywhere. Various people have tried various suggestions, but we've not got anywhere.

It started about six weeks ago, when two suppliers systems which require SSL certificates to verify the login stopped finding those certificates, and therefore I can't login to them, which is rather annoying, and means I seem to be spending a lot of time on the phone relying on what someone wants to sell me, rather than necessarily what I want to buy! I can see the certificates are there, and they have all been reinstalled now, and none of the suppliers experts can work this out either.

I was advised to install Chrome to get around this, but it simply won't load any secure web page (https site), simply saying it has revoked the Security Certificate - that happens on any https site, including logging into google itself.

I can use chrome to browse anything that doesn't requirte logging into using a secure login (which is none of any of the systems which are specific to my accounts), and IE8 just times out when trying to find certificates or run webpages with what I would call databases.

Has anyone got any ideas of a specific setting, or something I should try before spending money on a professional or buying a new PC (it's a few years old now)?

Please ask questions if necessary, and I will try to get back to you, although with the said machine being in the office, I can only look into things on it during UK office hours, so there may be delays in responses!

Thanks.

God bless, Daniel Wilson

Have you tried clearing the SSL cache under the content tab of internet options? I've heard that one sometimes works. Also, try running the sites in IE compatibility mode, that's what Microsoft support told me when I searched it. If you have no luck with these, I'm sure a google search should give plenty of suggestions!

A rare chance is that your computer local time is wrong, since SSL certificates have issued and expiry dates.

Thanks - sadly none of the above suggestions have moved forwards at all. I've synchronised the date and time many times recently too.

I've tried some of the google search options (within reason), but I keep getting nowhere, then getting wound up, and then running out of time.

Hi Daniel

Seems that most of these have already been suggested! But try working through this. Solution 4 might resolve it.

If I were you I would check other browsers too such as Firefox and Opera to see if they are any better before thinking about spending any money. Looking online there are quite a few issues with Chrome and SSL settings which seem to be random for some reason. I used to use Firefox as my browser before but now I use Chrome, albeit on Windows 8, not XP. You may find it works for you, all you can lose by trying a little time. (hopefully......)

For years I have never been able to log onto the SimSig site using Microsoft Explorer. The funny thing is that I can log onto the site no bother with Firefox or some other browser.

Thanks for the suggestions - I've been through the list with the link Andy gave all excpet restoring the system to a given point, and that's not changed IE8 wanting to load the sites with certificates.

I suspect th Chrome issue is a separate one to IE8 not finding the SSL certificates.
