Hello all,

If you are on my Facebook, or visit the RailUK forums regularly then you've probably seen this already, I'm posting on here for the benefit of those that don't visit RUK/ that are not on my Facebook.

Basically on Saturday 14th December, I am going out on the Melksham line to support the new increased services, and decided to make a casual meet up out of it. So far there's about 4 or 5 coming along, but the more, the merrier, to support this line.

We'll be going up and down on the unit between Westbury and Swindon to begin with in the morning, but as we are going up and down this gives a chance for other people that don't live on the line to meet us at either Westbury or Swindon. We will either just go up and down and have a general laugh and chat about railways or something, but if requested we might go up to Severn Beach or something too later on in the day.

There is no itinerary yet until the timetable is published online, but current plans are:

- See D1015 come through on the railtour to Devon
- Lunch supplies at Melksham from the Asda store close to the station or a visit to the Weatherspoons at Melksham
- Possible visits to Bristol Parkway, Temple Meads, Severn Beach or wherever in people need the track (for those that cover track).

Best ticket to use is the Heart-of-Wessex day ranger, which is also available to buy online on FGW's site. You might be able to get it posted to your door too.

The date is confirmed as 14th December 2013 and will not change.

This is a good opportunity if you haven't covered the Melksham line before. Anyone interested?

James, have you an RTT link for the Western tour? Wondering how far into Devon it goes?

Schedules for Railtours are not usually put into Network Rail systems (from which RTT gets its data) until a few days before the tour runs. This is mainly because NR planners take loads of time to confirm a path through the network. Railtours are back of the queue for paths. The tour company website may show some predicted times at pick-up and drop-off stations, but these are all TBC until the schedule is published.

Why did I say Devon? :doh

Sorry, I meant Bucks. Think I was thinking of an older tour with D1015 that went to Okehampton, but no it's going to Quainton Road via Swindon and Oxford, returns up the WCML

Nowhere near- the Western's doing Bescot> Cheltenham> Kemble> Swindon> Oxford> Claydon L&NE> Buckingham Railway Centre, returning to Bescot via Aylesbury and the WCML. Pathfinder website

EDIT: Underwood posted while I was typing.
