Many thanks for the new loader and new/refreshed KX, Exeter and Victoria Sims (can't afford West Hampstead just now). I've found that they are perfect in every way, except that after playing them for a bit (a couple of hours), the whole sim application will crash (grey screen, blue spinning wheel of death). This has happened most frequently on Victoria but has also happened with the other new sims. It appears to happen randomly and the only way out is unfortunately to ctrl+alt+del and end the application. This is obviously very disruptive and can't be predicted. Running Windows 7. Is there any specific event that precedes the crash? I am thinking either a specific sim event like a phone call etc. or even something else going on with your computer at the time. I have been playing Westbury and Exeter quite heavily in the last week or so without problem, and whilst playing it have been doing things that would not normally be done whilst playing through a timetable, such as setting lots and lots of random routes and then trying to "break" them. Nope it appears to be completely random. What causes it to crash is something simple, for example trying to set a route or open a timetable.

" said:No support then? It's not something myself or any of the testing team have encountered or can reproduce - do you have any other details as to what you are doing when it crashes that would be helpful in us trying to diagnose the problem. Also if you could attatch the log file (Simsig Loader0.log - it'll be the directory you've told loader to look in for simulations) that may lend more clues as to what's happening Thanks James Log in to reply |

As I said, all I've been doing is playing the sims. Nothing else untoward is happening in the background which would lead me to suspect the application is being interfered with. As it stands I can't play any of the simulations from the loader as it will crash at some point.

Renaming it to .txt might succeed, alternatively, put it into a zip file. Edit: I see you've already found a solution. Two million people attempt to use Birmingham's magnificent rail network every year, with just over a million of them managing to get further than Smethwick. I'm trying to reproduce the crashes that you're getting so that they can be investigated and fixed, that's why I need to know exactly what happened. What did you do in the moments leading up to the crash? Were there any messages or popups to go with the crash? This appears to be a very rare but serious bug and needs fixing, but I can't investigate without knowing how we got there in the first place :) Contrary to logic I'd encourage you to keep playing, and if it happens again note down as much about what happened in the moments leading up to it and post it here, or PM me if you'd prefer. peterb As there have been no other reports of this happening from other SimSig users, there is probably something unique to your system that is causing it. Windows keeps track of things like program crashes which may hold further information of use to the developers. If you have a look at this link there are instructions about how to access the Windows event log for XP, Vista and W7. If there is anything in the Event Viewer that seems relevant, perhaps you could copy and paste here in case that throws light on the situation. “In life, there is always someone out there, who won’t like you, for whatever reason, don’t let the insecurities in their lives affect yours.” – Rashida Rowe Log in to reply |

All I would have been doing would have been attempting to set routes or click on a description. No errors or popups, just a frozen grey screen. Other applications would have probably been running at the time such as (most likely) explorer.exe, opera.exe and wmplayer.exe and weren't affected by the SimSig crash. My system would not have been running short on CPU or memory at the time. I've attached two error logs that I've found. Post has attachments. Log in to view them. Log in to reply |

In one of the sims I am testing, the sim would crash when I attempted to set one particular route. I remembered this route was one of many actions I did before the first crash. I managed to try the same series of actions which again caused the crash. In further attempts I had honed it down to just one action. This allowed me to recreate the crash consistently. This meant I could tell the developer there was a problem with this route, and the dev found something they could fix, and the crashes stopped. The action, as I said, was attempting to set *one* particular route. The action(s) causing your crash might be moving a particular set of points, setting one route with the points starting/finishing in a particular position, it might be setting 3 or so routes in a set sequence, or any number of varying actions. Without any idea of which exact action(s) cause this crash, I am unable to help you further. Log in to reply |
