Here are a few teasers to test your brain cells. No prizes.

7. What is the longest route on linked Simsig simulations (at 01-Dec-13) that could be set simultaneously for a single train?

Ivybridge - Barnt Green? (195m 28ch)

Berwick-upon-tweed to Dyce via Stirling 225 3/4
Oh as per above throw Cowlairs into the mix.

Peter
Actually a quick spin round the fife circle would add a few miles as well.
[edit]
No that would fall foul of a simultaneous route setting

1. Depends on how you work it out - as a single play in Scrabble I'd go with Whimple: Placed on a Triple Word Score, and 50 point bingo for placing 7 tiles in one go. 101 points
You can't score a bingo *and* a triple word score with a 7-letter word though!

Number 6

Broadstone signal box, Single line to Corfe Mullen leading to double track to Poole.

Box diagram shows closing switch - one

Also a photo of the box shows said block switch smack bang in the middle of the block shelf.

Here are a few teasers to test your brain cells. No prizes.

3. Which four letter word appears most often within national rail station names.

Upon

4. Which Great Western Railway stations were never served by GWR trains?

Dartmouth

7. What is the longest route on linked Simsig simulations (at 01-Dec-13) that could be set simultaneously for a single train?

Ivybridge - Cleethorpes (assuming you include Derby, and allow chaining between Gloucester and Saltley)

8. What is the shortest distance on national rail that a train can run between two terminal/bay platforms

Stourbridge Branch?

11. What was unusual about Old Lea Station Signal Box?

It was temporary for a set of diversions due to engineering works (assuming you mean the current box)

Peter.
Jc92,

3. Sorry, upon only appears 3 times.
4. Correct but beaten by headshot119, do you want to have a guess at the second one?
7. Good try, but sorry, Derby isn't on the released sims list.
8. Correct, all 3/4 mile of the Stourbridge town branch.
11. There is something more unusual than the fact it was temporary.

Peter.

6. Which signal box which was located where a single track line went to double track could switch out?

Peter.
Templecombe (now closed)?

AndyG,

Correct, following the 1967 resignalling the up line of the double track to Sherborne became the extension of the single line with the down out of use.

Sloppyjag,

Well done. The Midland Metro doesn't seem to get much mention in the railway press.

Memorialstingray,

Newcastle to Newcastle via the Tyne bridges is 1.5 miles so I'm afraid it doesn't beat the Stourbridge Town branch.

Hmm... I make it 68 that contain the string "Hill" and 77 that contain "Park". Or 76 Park / 37 Hill when the word is on its own.
