Hi all. Merry Christmas! This is my first attempt at chaining and I am trying to chain Lancing to Brighton on my own computer. I was intending on using the loopback address (127.0.0.1) for the chain, but when setting up Brighton using the loader it will not let me change the IP address from the one listed (the private address assigned by the router). Figuring I could still use this address and just let the router do all the packet routing, I attempted to load up a second instance of the loader to start the Lancing sim. However, the loader will not start up - it seems only one instance of the loader is allowed to be active at any one time. The instructions on the wiki only apply to the old .exe based sims. Is it currently possible to chain two loader sims using the one computer or is there a special procedure that I need to perform in order to get them to work? Thanks all! Log in to reply |

Simsig binds itself to all available IP adresses, so when you enter the "Connect to external signalbox" dialog, you should be able to use localhost/127.0.0.1 without problems. Likewise, I haven't had any problems starting two instances of the loader. Are you positive that only one instance is running, i.e. neither the taskbar nor the task manager (check to process list to be on the safe side) are showing a second instance of the loader? Two million people attempt to use Birmingham's magnificent rail network every year, with just over a million of them managing to get further than Smethwick. Yes you can open more than one instance of the loader and chain. I would suggest instead of clicking on the loader short cut for the second instance, open it directly from it's own folder.

Aha! Got it now! Thanks guys. It turns out that a second loader was indeed launching but was hiding itself. I had to right-click on the icon for the first loader in the taskbar to bring up a menu, and then click on "SimSig Loader" at the top of that menu to reveal it (a second 'page' appeared behind the first icon on the taskbar) (NB: Windows 8). I was then able to load up the two sims. Connecting them was a doddle: exactly as Jan said. Thanks again. Log in to reply |
