Hey guys, So I've just had a thought regarding the train description xT3x or such variants being used when a line is closed. Out of curiosity, is this used to simulate a real situation like in a real signal box? -T3- interposed in the train describer signifies that that portion of the line is under an engineering possession. T3 is the rule book module which governs this situation. http://www.rgsonline.co.uk/Rule_Book/Rule%20Book%20Modules/T%20-%20Track%20and%20Signalling%20Work/GERT8000-T3%20Iss%203.pdf I believe that the term T3 is not officially used anymore and is now simply refered to in the WON (Weekly Operating Notice) as a 'possession'. T3s and T2s don't not exist any more they are referred to as possessions and line blockage

The Rule Book module T2 (and its partner T12) regarding shorter blockages of the line was removed some years ago. Now the regulations regarding "Line Blockages" are elsewhere. Though I know some people who still use the phrases T2 & T12, but only to their colleagues. What these different blocks of the line are referred to varies wildly, and what the signaller decides to put in their Train Describer also varies. Some TD Berth examples I have seen include:

The Wiki has the following (which are probably out of date, as discussed above) T1- Signalling Maintenance T2- Temporary block between trains T3- Possession of a running line for engineering purposes T4- Possession of a siding. Quite often I have seen the following placed in the berths affected "ITEM" "-179" "*WON" "-37-" to show the exact possession details. Paul You have to get a red before you can get any other colour Log in to reply |

I tend to use T324 in the birth for T3 item 24.

It's not unusual for me to have 2 or 3 Possessions and 2 or more line blockages in one night depending on which workstation I'm covering, so I use different variations for each one to denote that they are different blocks. -T3- for the first one, *T3* for the second, -EO- for the third, etc. Line blockages are noted as LB-1, LB-2, and so on. Other notations for different occasions, "-AC- OFF-" or "-DC- OFF-" [over two berths] along with pink track reminders for current isolations (although they're not called that anymore either!). -ST- for the S&T working at a particular location under their own protection. NOGO is another one and is self explanatory. NOSE when shunting in sidings just past the exit signal. If all else fails, BLOK can be used for everything! I've also known others that only put reminders on points and signals for an engineer's possession or line blockage and nothing in the berths. Each signaller to their own preferences. They're only additional visual reminders after all and whatever makes the Bobby think before doing anything daft is all for the good but there are only so many variations you can use with 4 characters! -T2- or variations thereof (T2-A, T2-D, T2-H, T2-T, T2-X depending on type) were commonly used before Module T2 of the Rule Book was withdrawn and replaced with Line Blockages.
