If anyone's interested here are some photos I took at tonight's unveiling of the Class 700 train. It's a design mock-up, I understand, rather than the first production carriages but you get the idea. From my point of view if you are used to Class 317/319 2+3 seating it's probably a great train, but if you are used to the superb Class 365 it's a disappointment.

Peter,
From what I saw on BBC London news this evening there appeared to be a lot more room for standing passengers to stand in and lots of rows of 2+1 seating..not too sure what to say regarding the picture you have posted showing the lady peering into the toilet cubicle......maybe she spotted another seat.....

The seat pitch still makes the assumption that everyone in the UK is under 5ft tall though! Which means I will still have my knees under my chin during the daily commute!

You could give up your seat to the short people and stand Plenty of standing room by the looks of it!

50/50 if you take the space of 2 normal people standing

The seats that face each other look particularly poor for legroom; I'm over 6ft so anyone siting opposite me would have hardly any room!

Those crash protection elements at the front somehow keep reminding me of a hamster...

Good pictures and a "great" insight to the future. I picked up on the seating issue. Personally I'm a mere 5ft 4in, but I think even I will be rubbing knees with my fellow travellers.

Clearly going the same way as LUL and providing that all important "comfortable standing space" with plenty of handrails - something we saw with the new S-stock on the Sub-Surface Lines. Not so bad if you're stuck in the rush hour and only going a short distance in London. Not so good when you're on a 30+ minute commute.

This will be more common once those of us who currently commute on the Great Northern start joining trains that haven't started their journey at King's Cross. Dreading that day...
