having downloaded Victoria SE i notice the VSOE is in as 1Y** rather than 1Z. 2 questions. 1) does it appear in the WTT as a regular booked working, or is it still adhoc but with a 1Y** description 2) if it is in the WTT does that make it the only "timetabled" steam movement in the country (when its worked by steam of course) "We don't stop camborne wednesdays" Log in to reply |

Quite a few VSOE workings show up in Network Rail Working Timetables as 1Yxx. I'm picking this is because they have a semi-regular pattern of operation, as most of those paths have no start or finish dates, but will show as (for example) WFO-Q, to mean Wednesday and Friday Only, On Request.

The 1Y**'s have protected pathways in the WTT but are still run adhoc. I think I'm right in saying that if excursions running in WTT paths are steam hauled, the headcode becomes 1Z**. My colleagues and I prepare platform workings for the staff at Victoria, copies of which are issued to panel 5 to work from. To save myself typing the same information over and over again, I prepared a list of all VSOE workings which appear in the WTT - I then just paste it into the main document. I've attached it here. " said:Does the Jackobite appear in the WTT?Seems so - the WCRC site says the Jacobite starts on the 12th of May, which matches the dates on these workings: 5Y61 08:35 Fort William Jn Yard-Fort William 2Y61 10:15 Fort William-Mallaig 2Y62 14:11 Mallaig-Fort William 5Y62 16:35 Fort William-Fort William Jn Yard Interestingly, neither the Fort William Sleeper nor the Jacobite actually state "Sleeper" or "Steam", despite the terms being defined for section GA... And, of course, headcode Y is the proper code for trains on the West Highland Line. Going back VSOE services, Victoria-Chesterfield and return are timetabled as 1E02/1O07, Victoria-Bath Spa or Bristol as 1V80/1O92, Victoria-Soton as 1Y93/1Y94, Victoria-Folkestone 1Y46/1Y44, and Victoria-Hove as 1Y91. Headcode Y is simply "Trains not covered elsewhere" - there's no valid headcode in section WB for Victoria-Hove or Victoria-Folkestone. Last edited: 19/02/2014 at 14:17 by Danny252 Log in to reply |

There's a charter path from Victoria to Bristol in the WTT that's sometimes steam-hauled. It runs as 1V80 down and 1O92 up.

They look like they might be related to the "West Highland and Jacobite Statesman" service - I think a fair bit of it is just placeholder, though, as the times don't match up (the train apparently spends only 30 minutes at Mallaig!).

The NYMR Whitby trains also appear in the WTT (or did last year) as 1T10, 1T11, 1T12, 1T13, 1T14 and 1T15. 1T14/1T15 appear twice depending on whether they're the 1635 off Grosmont/1730 off Whitby, or the 1713 and 1802. Although I seem to remember that they don't have a time at Grosmont, they just sort of appear and vanish at Sleights.

But how many of the VSOE charters are actually steam? Their usual Friday lunchtime Vic-Vic via Guidlford and Redhill is always 67's. It's usually the other charter companies that run Steam. Log in to reply |

" said:The 1Y**'s have protected pathways in the WTT but are still run adhoc.Hello John. A little off topic, the "Y" code used to be the old southern region inter divisional code, ie, south eastern division to south central or south western divisions or south central divion to south eastern or south western divisions etc etc and applied to all class of trains and still does, apart from where we got the head code changed like for instance the London Charing Cross to Tattenham Corner / Caterham's used to be "Y"s in both directions but we got the down direction codes changed so that "Y" was used for Caterham only to stop the wrong routes at Purley. For me I always find it odd that everyone refers to all the charters as VSOE's (Voh-see). Just say "the charter" or the headcode and be done with it! Log in to reply |

The lunchtime Vic Guidford Vic is always steam - I try to take my son to see it if I can, however, I'm surprised that it is SX as it often runs Saturday and last did so on 8th February and will run again on 1st March (I have just checked UK Steam Info and it will be 1Z82 on Saturday)and 22nd March, before going back to Fridays in April.
