Why is it so hard to get the forum index? 03/05/2014 at 14:54 #59987

Am I being really thick here? It's just a real pain to navigate that Javascript pop-up menu to get to the index. I'm used to flailing my mouse around and clicking things at high speed, but I have to slow right down to make sure I don't lose the menu. I wouldn't mind for something I don't click very frequently, but the forum index seems like such a key thing to be able to access. It could be placed, for example, in the breadcrumbs (Home -> Forum Index -> General -> Website / Forum instead of Home -> General -> Website / Forum).

Joomla! does seem to make a rather simple task complicated!

Is it really that terrible? I always go for "Recent Topics", and that's the second entry and should therefore be even harder to click successfully, but I really have no trouble with it. The forum menu is also a far larger button than the reply and submit post buttons!

The thing I find odd is that sometimes the drop-downs say that I need to login when I am logged in and I need to logout and back in to reset.

It's not that terrible, I agree - it really is the definition of "first world problems" ;)

However, it would be nicer if it were slightly easier to return to the index. It's just a bit of a pain right now, and also an odd inconsistency with the breadcrumbs.

FWIW, I do what Danny252 does: bookmark Recent Topics as my entry into SimSig, then if I want a particular section, click Board Categories and scroll down a much tinier list than if I had selected Index. To return to the Index or Recent Topics I hover over the black Forum tab on the horizontal menu till the menu opens and move the mouse down to make a final selection. No problems here.

Must admit the only time I have any problem getting into the index is when I am using my Apple I-Pad, which takes at least three attempts of touching the Index drop down before eventually coming up with the goods.

I always just click on the Forum tab itself, entirely ignoring the menu. It opens something which is roughly like Recent Topics, though it seems the list of items is not quite the same between the two places. Certainly all the new stuff is listed first in… whatever it is that I use.

Click on the Forum tab (no need for the menu to drop down), then click Go next to the combobox that says "Board categories". That'll get you to the forum index.

Is this the black tab in the SimSig - Forum - Products - Downloads - etc tabs below the SimSig logo at the top of the page? If so, I've tried in 5 different browsers (FF/IE/Opera/Chrome/Flashpeak Slimboat) and every time I click on the Forum tab I don't see a combobox. The Forum opens in what seems to be Recent Topics view. Just the age of my system?

Click on the Forum tab, then wait for the page to load, then it'll be in "latest postings" order. Just above the posts there is a combobox which by default says "Board categories" with a "Go" button next to it. Click on the "go" button.

Got it now. Apologies for being so obtuse.
