Train list broken in Wine, part two (or where's my right click? 17/05/2014 at 20:49 #60653

When running a loader sim (Westbury in my case) under Wine, the train list shows up when I push F2, yet right clicking anywhere on the window does nothing whatsoever. This is making it really hard for me to shunt my way out of a traffic jam...(i.e. I have a train that needs to be told to shunt over to another place to meet up with its sadly misplaced other half, and I can't do that :P)

(BTW: I tried IE7/8 from Winetricks, with no change to the situation)

Try right-clicking a few more times with the window kept open. It doesn’t always work the first time for me, but the menu appears after the second or third click.

Don't fear for long: the old train list will return as an option in the future. I've no idea why Wine/Delphi has such a problem displaying simple HTML controls but it clearly does.

Personally I don’t mind all that much either way (the new train list does work for me); however, the default stylesheet for the HTML-based train list makes it quite a bit less space-efficient than the old list-based train list. I imagine a suitable alternate stylesheet could make it just as good. However, I guess you still wouldn’t have the nice ability to highlight a row that the old list provided, allowing you to quickly visually refocus on the same train (in the HTML train list, any highlight would presumably be erased when the page reloads).

An alternate stylesheet has been available in the Downloads section for several months now.

I've asked some wine developer friends (they're not experts on that part of wine, unfortunately) - but they don't really know why it would happen unless they saw the source code for that section (or a detailed description of how it works), unfortunately. I would recommend speaking to one yourself in private if you really want to resolve this - the fix would preferably be on the wine side, of course; wine are very keen to gain support for more Windows apps in as neat a way as is possible, so this would fix any app that does the same thing rather than SimSig having to include a work-around.

However, surely it can't just be simple HTML - you must be doing something or other to have dynamic content and the custom context menus that interact back with the app, surely?
