hi all, I noticed todays STP Powercar move was headcoded 5Z76: http://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/train/O01913/2014/05/27/advanced question for the learned - why was it signalled Class 5 and not class 0? "We don't stop camborne wednesdays" Log in to reply |

" said:hi all,I passed that at Exeter. One of our drivers was stood there waving at me , having just brought it in. Couldn't tell you why it's a class 5 though. I've driven back-to-back power cars on the mainline before, and they were definitely class 0. Log in to reply |

That's because this was the actual path http://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/train/O01890/2014/05/27/advanced "Passengers for New Lane, should be seated in the rear coach of the train " - Opinions are my own and not those of my employer Last edited: 27/05/2014 at 18:46 by headshot119 Log in to reply |

There was a 5Z76 Newton Abbott-Exeter as well - which was entirely separate.

The actual move was 0Z74, forming the 13.28 Laira to Bristol SPM. Can only assume that 5Z76 was a ECS of some description.

If our Light Loco movements are anything to go by, the brakes would have been rubbish? Our locomotives break much better if they actually have a load behind them... Sorry guys, I am in the business of making people wait! Log in to reply |

" said:If our Light Loco movements are anything to go by, the brakes would have been rubbish? Isn't that just some tenet that is going away with new locos? When I look at some of them (photo of a Taurus, photo of a cl. 151 loco), they have more than 150 braking percent which is more than what most coaches have, except for coaches with a magnetic brake. Goes to show, different train, different behaviour. As part of our assesment runs we did periodically during OJT, and again when being certified as Drivers on the SA's (ex BR Mark 2 coaches in push/pull with a locomotive), we had to do Light Engine runs to get used to how they behaved, and they could be very scary if you didn't pay them enough respect. A little brake a long way out I found was best...
