I've never noticed this before, but I happened to be looking at the Train List, when I observed a train coming from London Bridge was travelling at just 5mph when running on clear signals.

This also happens in the opposite direction

I think I'm right in saying that the linespeed throughout is 15mph?

Had it originally been approaching a red? I had noticed a few trains take ages around Blackfriars also from Elephant & Castle if they passed a Yellow, which I think may be an error in the defensive driving rules of the Timetable?
Sorry guys, I am in the business of making people wait!

Certainly trains coming from London Bridge always approach L44 at danger, as even when the the train is granted the slot straight away, it takes a little while before the route from L44 is set.

I think it's got something to do with that. If I've understood the rules correctly, if you change the value in the 'From' box on the rule for approaching a Yellow to 30, it should stop trains reducing to a stupidly low speed on passing a Y signal. Can't comment on the realism of this. What's happening at the moment is that trains are passing the Yellow at 15mph and reducing to 33% of that speed, i.e. 15 mph. Changing the 'from' value to 25 means that this rule only comes into force for trains travelling at more than 30 mph to begin with.

See also my post here about the defensive driving rules included in the default timetable.
Two million people attempt to use Birmingham's magnificent rail network every year, with just over a million of them managing to get further than Smethwick.
