Hi all, Members may (or may not) be aware that the railway between Barnt Green and Redditch has been under possession since the end of June to allow for works to take place at Alvechurch, namely the addition of a new platform at the station and redoubling of 1.8 miles of track. The line closure remains in place, I belive, until the end of August. However once the December 2014 TT changes take effect the frequency between Redditch and Birmingham New Street will be made 3 trains per hour instead of the present 2: the new times are already up on Open Train Times. Is there any hope, perhaps, of the Redditch line (South Top panel) being coverted from this..... ..... to something which, by my impression although I don't know for certain, may well look something like this..... It will have to be done if timetables are to be created for Saltley in the future. Just means a choice of eras, say "post 2014" and "pre 2014" or something like that. Should last until 2017 when the new station opens at Bromsgrove..... Just a thought. Dave Log in to reply The following user said thank you: Banners88 |

I gues there is an higher chance of this being implented if someone knows how it realy looks, including signal arangements, TC brakes overlaps, distances etc. by the way, the overlap symbol comming from Redditch is at a strange position on your picture, before the signal head, instead of past it. There's a set of engineering drawings (attention, large PDF) from the planning application available on Network Rail's homepage. While it doesn't include everything that would be needed for Simsig, it shows some additional details.
Two million people attempt to use Birmingham's magnificent rail network every year, with just over a million of them managing to get further than Smethwick. Last edited: 18/08/2014 at 11:03 by Jan Log in to reply |

This option would also require remodelling of moor st station and the stratford on avon line which is covered by WMCC which is quite possibly a conflict of interest

The new redoubled redditch branch will be controlled from Saltley, not the WMSCC, and in itself wouldn't be a conflict of interest. As mentioned in this thread, only South Top panel remains in use in the original Saltley PSB.This option would also require remodelling of moor st station and the stratford on avon line which is covered by WMCC which is quite possibly a conflict of interest Shirley, Henley-in-Arden and Bearley Jn (which also controlled Stratford) have also gone over to WMSCC. A new crossover at Stratford was installed to allow direct access to Platforms 2 and 3. The crossover at Shirley was moved to Whitlocks End and trains now terminate at the latter instead of the former. " said:" said:His point was that if you only modify the Redditch branch, the option of a post-2014 era on Saltley would not be technically correct since areas covered under WMCC would still be pre-2014 because of conflicts of interest in replicating them. This option would also require remodelling of moor st station and the stratford on avon line which is covered by WMCC which is quite possibly a conflict of interestWould it, you could just modify the Redditch branch on its own? Moor Street was remodelled after the line went over to the WMSC. The new section of line at Alvechurch is controlled by a separate NX panel in Saltley PSB. The Moor Street modifications are not all that is different now to when Saltley PSB was open. There are a lot more signals, and a lot of points have moved a long way. It would almost be a new sim to create an era as the signalling in this area is today. Log in to reply |

Regarding the Stratford route there is a point here as there is also now a Stratford Parkway between Bearley Junction and Stratford upon Avon. A visit might clear up details of the signalling IDs but only if you can get in such a place as to find out what you wish to know. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stratford_Parkway_railway_station Dave Log in to reply |
