Exeter sim - new stations..... 30/08/2014 at 23:40 #64228

Hi all,

Two things I have recently round out. First of all comes this:

- - - - - - - - - -

New station for Exmouth branch
Work was due to begin on a new station in Exeter during July.

Exeter Newcourt will cost £1.5million , be of relatively simple construction, and is being built on the Exmouth branch between Digby & Sowton and Topsham. It is expected to be open before the end of 2014 and will have a 30-minute service in each direction.

[Railway Magazine, August 2014, Page 88]

- - - - - - - - - -

And secondly, according to Wikipedia, the new station being built at Cranbrook (near Exeter) is - or should be - also in the process of being built. This station, to be located between Whimple and Pinhoe, is expected to open in January 2015 if the weather allows.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cranbrook_(Devon)_railway_station

If those stations were added it might be possible to incorporate both by giving the Exeter sim a 2015 era.

HTIOI,
Dave

In the 2015 era the level crossing at Taunton could also be removed?

Also the overlap of signal 337 (at the up end of platform 3) should be amended, as it behind point 855. This is what it is like on the real panel. Thus alowing a waterloo to exeter arrive at the same time as a barnstaple to Exmouth.

As well as this a the auto buton on PN1 is not there in real life.

Also signals E637 and E324 at norton Fitzwarren do not show a yellow when routing on and off of the WSR. This is because the proceser cards thinks it a shunt rout.

I would rather have that fixed than a few stations added. With thes 2 new station being added Exmouth jn box is going to possibly have a new panel fitted and some resigning, so lets wate and see what happens!

Why would they need a new panel fitted just for a new station - or is that designed to increase capacity/line speed or something to make up for the extra stop?

If Exeter IS refreshed in the future (since it's been refreshed relatively recently I expect it'll either be a while or just a small update), it'd be nice if the real NSTR feature is used for the Barnstaple branch (am I right in thinking it's now in the core code, as used in North Wales Coast?) rather than the strange ARS stuff.

I am aware that there are some errors in the Sim representation and have a long-term plan to recast starting at Totnes (part done).

Has this not already been changed?

Is there any plan to convert Red Cow LC into an underpass or overpass?

Judging by Google Maps, it would be a bit tricky.

At least they did Silk Mill.

The road and building layout there would make it nearly impossible to do. On the St Davids side you have a three way junction and a car park immediately as you come off the crossing. On the other side you have car parks and depot access.

There really isn't much room on the ground to do this. Given that the road which goes over Red Cow has a junction just a few yards further on from the crossing on one end

I really meant, in real life is there any proposal to eliminate Red Cow LC?

(Being far enough from the wood to see the trees) let's face it, it must be a real bottleneck for road traffic running the gauntlet with trains constantly crossing. Bit like Moses crossing the Red Sea.

Not asking Peter to pre-empt the hand of God here.

(overlooked others who replied to my previous post, sorry. And thanks for the nice Google Maps pic.).

You could say that. At times the queue for the crossing will go a considerable way along on the city side. I've even know the queue to reach Central station at times.

The other day, I was one of FOUR consecutive trains in a row that the barriers were down for. It's not an ideal location for a crossing in this day and age of traffic levels.

One of the corrections to match RL would be the inclusion of a slot to access the Buckfastleigh Branch (SDR) from E203 and to remove the route from E3.
The slot is achieved by the branch train staff having to be inserted into the Annetts Key Release on the up platform at Totnes and "plunging" whilst the Exeter A Position sets the road.

Getting back on topic, there is also a firm proposal to build a new station on the Torbay branch between Torre and Newton Abbot.

You could do it with a 10% gradient at each side. Be a bit messy during building though - a 2 mile diversion via either crossing, mind you the pain might be worth it.
