Am I correct in thinking that the signal gantry at Llandudno is the last surviving all-mechanical signal gantry on Network Rail? I've been racking my brains and I can't think of anywhere else that still possesses one.

Well I can name three without any trouble. The gantries containing EDL 5,10,40,39 at the Ore end of platforms 3 and 4 at Hastings, EDL 6,7,44,45 at the Ore end of platforms 1 and 2 at Hastings and finally EDL 77,82,71 forming the 'From Ore Down Home' at Hastings. are all fully mechanical semaphore signal gantries. I do believe there used to be a large all-mechanical semaphore gantry in the Yeovil Junction area, on the line from Pen Mill, this was sadly replaced with modern superbright, ultra lightweight LED signals when the area was resignalled sometime in late 2012/early 2013. Sadly I couldn't get a picture before they went. :( Jamie. Log in to reply |

To clarify, I'm defining a gantry as a beam crossing at least two tracks, supported at each end. theres a gantry at Harrogate North, carrying 2 signals "back to back" however it doesnt currently have any track underneath it due to rationalisation of the layout (it formerly had two lines passing underneath it.) https://c1.staticflickr.com/9/8516/8543256866_37fcdf47b8_z.jpg "We don't stop camborne wednesdays" Log in to reply The following user said thank you: Steamer |

I think there is still one that meets your specification at Hilton Junction just south of Perth.

It depends slightly on your definition! Does a gantry need legs to be a gantry?
