Hi All I've recently had an issue with being unable to host for a couple of weeks now, which has been annoying me (being polite). For whatever reason, when I host, I can connect within my network using the internal IP with no issue, but can not get anyone externally to connect using the external IP. I have checked the ports are open (and pointing to the right machine), the Firewall is set to allow SimSig through, and I had been hosting routinely until about 3 weeks ago with no issue. I have acquired a new PC in this time, however the problem existed before this was commissioned, and both the new machine, and the Laptop exhibit the same symptoms. Pretty much everything looks the way it should so I am stumped. Any ideas? Andrew Sorry guys, I am in the business of making people wait! Log in to reply |

Have you verified that the external IP you are giving out is correct? Some ISPs change them very rarely, but still do change them occasionally.

Is your port forwarding address correct? If my memory is correct, it should be 192.160.1.1xx. 1xx needs to be set in your router. Barry Barry, Sydney, New South Wales, Australia Log in to reply |

When you connect a PC to a home network, it may get a different local address depending on how many wireless gadgets are on your network, at any given moment. To find the local address of your PC, go to the Windows command prompt and type ipconfig /all Look for the entry IPv4 address, which should be something like 192.168.0.2 Your SimSig port forwarding should be sending messages from your router to your IPv4 address (from the outside world to the local address of your PC). I often have this same problem, where the local address changes and port forwarding stops working. It is all rather technical. Hope some of this made sense to you. Good luck. PS-if it is still available, download the port checker tool from portforward.com It is free and very quickly checks whether your port is open (and also tells you the external IP address that people need to use to connect to you). Morning guys. Thank you all for your suggestions. I pretty much always check the ports before hosting as I have previously been caught out with the internal IP changing on the laptop, but I also now have two computers that I could host with - so from now on I'd be checking that the ports are set to the right machine first anyway. I always check the external IP using the "what's my IP?" feature from Simsig, which so far has also matched other sources when I have tried as well. I will keep playing around with it and see what I come up with. It does still seem odd that I could host before, but can't now, and besides introduce a new computer to the mix I havn't done anything else, and this issue came up before that new computer arrived!
