Hi Guys

Just a quick request to see if we could possibly get the Platforms Lengths given to us in Meters, expecially at Southsea? I ask this, as I am looking at a Carriage Working Notice, which obviously points to the current track layout with Platform 4 being at least 12 cars long, and the Manual gives all lengths in Car Lengths. This doesn't help me when I want to know whether a 10 car 444 will fit or not (and I suspect it won't).

Additionally, I don't suppose there is any chance of a startup option being made available to allow the "new platform lengths" at Southsea so that current timetables can be represented without having to resort to short forming some trains?

I am currently working on a 2014 timetable for Portsmouth. I already have Southern and First Great Western sorted, but it is South West Trains that run the big trains, and I know the 12 car 450's (and I suspect the 10 car 444's) booked for Southsea Platform 4 will not fit.

Cheers

Andrew

Andrew,

"12 cars" when discussed in the manual means at least 12 cars of class 450 stock (246m long).

A 10 car 444 is 232m long.

In the old era, PMS P4 is I suspect approximately 200m long.

A 10 car 458/5 is 204m long, this is approximately the length of 10 class 450 vehicles, although they can only be run in 4, 8 or 12-car formations.

So personally, i'd use 205m as the P4 length.

Hope this helps,
Jamie.

From TC lengths, platforms at Portsmouth and Southsea are:

P1-300m
P2-290m
P3-230m
P4-265m

remember that if you alter the "stopping position" in the train's TT you may be able to gain slightly more space too

I have recently finished a Dec 2014 - May 2015 timetable, and am about to start testing - hopefully we're not both writing the same timetable :doh

It more or less could be. I was actually writing for May 14 - Dec 14, but I cannot imagine much has changed John! Oops

Did you get the relevant stock formations to fit at Southsea Low Level?

I had to reduce the trains to 225m to get them to fit.
