Out of interest why is it that I get a clearing point violation when I set a route from Laurencekirk 20 to 10 (REF)?

There was no trains in the section ahead to Carmont, I was setting a route in advance for a train which hadn't yet past Craigo.

The only think I can think of is because the route was set from CO15. I should have waited for the train to come to a stand at signal 20 first?

Update.

Waited until the train had pulled up to signal 20 and set the route - no violation.

I did however get another violation, and while I wasn't watching it to be 100% sure I'm very confident it was caused by the rear of the train passing signal 20 and clearing circuit LKCLRD. I'd cancelled the route from 20 by that point.

Again there was nothing else in the area and nothing set in the rear from CO15.

I'm not 100% certain this is true, but I think it's very likely:

There are locations on other simulations where an overlap holds a set of points normal, because the points are so close to the signal that a SPAD even at moderate speed would cause the train to derail on the points. This appears to be the Absolute Block version of that, where trains must be accepted with the points normal and they're only allowed to be reversed when the train has come to a stand.

One of the conditions for accepting a train under the regulations for train signalling by the absolute block system is that points within the clearing point must be correctly set and where required locked before a train can be accepted from the box in rear.

I think I vaguely recall a discussion on here previously as to how that rule varied between companies - on the GWR the points had to remain set and locked continuously, whereas on the Midland points could be moved as long as they were immediately relocked and led to another valid clearing point. I think it was probably Keith who said that at some Midland boxes the regular service would have been unworkable under the GWR rule.

It was indeed, a signalman I knew quoting an Area Movements Inspector acknowledging that reality (in this case at Finchley Road).
