Hi I have been playing this sim for a few months now and still enjoying, but it's taken me all this time to notice that there is no platform 2 in the Portsmouth Harbour sim. Log in to reply |

" said:HiSomeone local will probably add more detail or correct me, but Platform 2 was removed some years ago. Something to do with the structural integrity of the Pier I believe? Sorry guys, I am in the business of making people wait! Log in to reply The following user said thank you: Myrm |

It's still there but not used as there is no track in the trackbed. I seem to recall there was some remedial work done in the 90's to stop the station collapsing into the Solent and the track in P2 was never replaced. Edit: Kiawhara typed faster. Planotransitophobic! Substantial structural remedial work was done on the pier supporting Portsmouth Harbour station in the 1990s. As a cost-cutting measure a decision was taken not to reinstate Platform 2, and although the space where the former track was still exists my understanding is that the present structure is not designed to take the weight of a reinstated platform. The effect of removing platform 2 is that capacity at Portsmouth Harbour has been somewhat restricted in a period that has seen substantial passenger growth, with Portsmouth & Southsea being used to terminate trains that might otherwise have gone through. Decisions about Portsmouth Harbour were taken in the midst of privatisation when, if I recall, the focus within the industry was much more about organisational structure than about train performance and system capacity. If the decision was being taken now I suspect that Platform 2 would have been rebuilt. Hope that helps Cedric Log in to reply The following user said thank you: Myrm |
