Hi

I have noticed an issue, in fact two issues, with the Portsmouth SimSig thing.

1) As seen in the screen grab below there are two trains I have circled in yellow. The proplem I am having is that they are the same train. The signal in front of 1P23 often stops trains even when the path is set. Then I tell the train to pass the signal at danger. The train then seems to split itself in two and moves on without a head code, leaving a 'ghost' train behind.

So in the screen grab this has occurred and the train is now at Portsmouth Southsea 2 but has lost its head code. The 1P23, which was where the train originally was, still displays on the system.

This seems to affect every train attempting to pass the aforementioned signal. The route (where 1P23 is showing) has reset itself as I would expect once a train has passed.

Any ideas?


2) When I see two trains attempting to join together, I see the "Joining train" in the train list window, but the trains never seem to join. Am I mant to be doing something to facilitate the joining of the two trains?

Is this at the start of the sim or have you been playing for a while?

Can you supply a save from before the incident train comes to a stand at the signal which is the cause of the incident please along with the route setting steps that you undertook to enable to fault find and carry out the required investigation please.

The problem you have with 1P23 may be because you are routing the train using shunt signal 160. The correct route is 84 to 448.

Routing the train 84 to 160 to 448 will result in the train leaving its description behind and continuing under an NDA (non description alert *X**).

As for your joining problem, I'm not sure. So long as you put both halves of the train in the same platform they should join without any further action from you.

I'll try your signal suggestion. I will let you know what happens. :)

When the second train enters a platform where there is already another train, and the "joining trains" message comes up, should I change the head codes of both trains to the one newer head code before they appear as one train or after?

Yes, you need to change the head code yourself, but you only need to change the one closest to the departure signal to the new headcode, you can ignore the one closest to the buffers.

Agree with John about the 1P23 (was a bit small on phone so had to look on comp to see it bigger), it's because you are using shunt signals that the headcode doesn't step and goes xxxx

You can do it whenever you like- what headcode you enter doesn't affect what the trains do. It is simply a labelling system to help you, the trains follow what's written in the timetable. The only way to tell trains to do something different is to edit the timetable via F2. Personally, I change them as soon as they arrive, so I don't forget. As mentioned above, you only need to change the headcode at the signal end of the platform, the one at the buffers can be left and will disappear when the train leaves.

As above- the train is the occupied track circuit(s), the headcodes are simply labels.

The signal will clear in time- it is held at red to ensure that the driver slows down before clearing. The signal will display a shunt aspect (the grey quarter-circle changes to a white one), because you've set the route to 160, which is a shunt signal. To follow on from John's point, trains should generally be routed from main signal to main signal- you should only set routes to/from shunt signals when a main signal isn't available (e.g. to access Fratton depot).
