Westbury queries for August 2015 24/07/2015 at 20:13 #74451

Hi all,

I am wondering if anyone on here knows the answer to the following question which applies to schedules during the 24/7 closure of Bathampton Junction in August this year.

Service 1K71, which normally runs as the 05:18 Bristol TM to London Paddington, via. Westbury, starts from Westbury at 06:03 during the period of closure. When I started to compile the timetable there was a train 5K71 (03:30 St. Philips Marsh to Westbury, via. Taunton, STA 05:28) in the schedules which then becomes 1K71. I am certain that the unit is not stabled at Westbury overnight: train 1K71 is scheduled to use Platform 3 at Westbury and there are other trains (5O01 and 2O01) scheduled to use P3 before 1K71 departs. I notice, however, that 5K71 has now vanished from both OpenTrainTimes and RealTimeTrains. Is this still scheduled to operate or is the HST unit for 1K71 coming in from elsewhere?

Cheers,
Dave

2O01 departs from platform 3 as does 1F39 and 2B01 (2B01 won't during the blockade). They are lined up during the night shunts ready for morning departure. 5K71 will arrive, terminate and depart in P1 as it does currently during the blockade.

May I ask if you require this information because you are compiling a timetable?

Indeed I am. Making headway with it. I am done with the paralell SwinDid one (just the Oxford to paddington local stoppers missing from that: got 260 trains so far).

Thanks for the reply re Westbury. RTT had 5K71 arriving at P3 and indeed still has 1K71 starting from Platform 3. 1F39 to Portsmouth Harbour (and its previous working 5F39) are shown at Platform 2. I will leave things as they are now and can check on the day itself.

The other thing to remember about the Westbury area is there are a lot of ad-hoc untimetabled shunts, and these will increase during the Bathampton blockade as terminating trains need to be shoved out the way where they'd normally go through to Bristol etc...

Hi James,

Yes I had thought of that. I think the Weymouth trains that are scheduled through to terminate at Trowbridge I will curtail to Westbury, then ECS them via the Down Trowbridge Sdg. It is a pity that there is no crossover from P3 to the Up Trowbridge Siding as that would be quite convenient too. Fortunately there are not too many terminating trains at Westbury: from the info I have SWT are running additional services between Westbury and Salisbury but these do not do ECS at the Westbury end.

Also, check PMs.

Dave
