SimSig has randomlydecided that my computer is another computer 31/08/2015 at 19:21 #75554

I do run wine, but I've not had an issue with this in the past. I have not updated any software or hardware configuration recently, so I'm mystified as to what could have caused it. But SimSig has decided that all my licences are allocated to another machine. If someone could realloc them asap that'd be much appreciated, as it rather impedes my abilitiy to do anything.

PS: The Licence Manager needs an unlock all button for this very occasion!

PPS: A better solution would be not to use terrible generally evil half-arsed DRM at all and just trust the users... it would rather be an understatement to say that I'm not a fan of DRM at all. It generally doesn't work well, as it just negatively affects legitimate users and doesn't stop anyone with half a brain and a copy of IDA Pro from pirating it if they feel the need.

PPPS: The Licence Manager also needs accelerators. All that clicking hurt my fingers.

PPPPS: The Licence Manager needs to to produce weird error messages if you attempt to request unlocks of two sims quickly without waiting for the first to complete. Tthis is an issue if the first takes some time to complete, such as when you're using CrossCountry's WiFi on a train.

PPPPPS: The Licence Manager needs some way of seeing which ones you've already requested unlocks for.

PPPPPPS: Apologies if any of this comes across as rude, that was not my intention. I still fully respect SimSig (why else would I have bought all the sims?); I just think the DRM issue is the single biggest downside of an otherwise excellent product.

I just went to process the requests for you but they've already been done a short while ago.

I will add your requests to the issue tracker.

Thanks for the very prompt unlocking! My points still apply though. I'd certainly prefer it if the DRM weren't a thing, but if that's not an option, at least make the licence manager more usable when you have a lot of licences.

A correction: SimSig hasn't "randomly decided". Windows (or whatever pretends it is Windows) has indicated that something has changed. I unlocked your licenses a few minutes ago.

As for DRM, well, giant corporations wouldn't be spending money on it if the returns were not greater than the effort. Same principle for small companies.
