Is this another Back to the Future joke because the new signaling centre appears to be using graphics from 1985.

Suppose "modern" graphics would have the signal aspects represented by =G, =YY, =Y and =R with for SPAD. Peter I identify as half man half biscuit - crumbs! " said:Is this another Back to the Future joke because the new signaling centre appears to be using graphics from 1985. :PThat's only 30 years. They must have nearly got it sorted & working. Now for 100yr or so good, reliable operation. Like at Stockport. It ain't broke... Log in to reply |

Nice to get the behind-the-scenes view of the equipment room as well. Not changed much in 25 years either! Looks like some of the subsystems have moved from solid state to PC operation (the ARS cabinet) which makes a lot of sense. Log in to reply |

What's the "For SPAD monitoring" bit about?

" said:What's the "For SPAD monitoring" bit about? If a SPAD is detected then ARS drops a bunch of subareas to prevent it setting a route towards a potential runaway. The subareas affected are usually more than just the ones required for the route(s) for the signal that had the SPAD. IIRC if those subareas are on a different screen to that of the SPAD-ed signal then they're repeated in that "For SPAD monitoring" box. A little superfluous as signallers are supposed to always have the whole area on display anyway. SimSig Boss Log in to reply |

And '...must not use radios or similar apparatus when on duty' (there is a story about a television in a box, somewhere in South Wales, that came to light when the TV licence renewal went to the Area Manager's Office...) And... well, I'm sure you can think of a few more. Log in to reply |
