Whilst waiting for a delayed train at High Wycombe I glanced down at the "down" track and noticed these two devices in between the track and wondered what they were for. Train detection for the signalling system perhaps?

Train detection for the signalling system perhaps?The clamp-like devices are track anchors, they're used in a variety of scenarios to hold the track formation in place. There is however a piece of signalling equipment in view. The cable running inside the 4 foot is an ATP loop, that transmits ATP information to equipped trains. The ATP loop could do with being aligned better!

I think they are called lateral ends resistance plates (LERPS). As described above, they hold the track in place, usually on curves
