Description

A 2015 timetable for the Cambridge area. Times have been taken from Open Train Times and Real Time Trains, with some freight headcodes from Network Rail's WTT. Rolling stock allocations for Great Northern and Greater Anglia electric services are from diagrams posted to the Modern EMU Yahoo Group, CrossCountry from my New Street 2015 timetable and all others are a 'best guess'.

Several compromises have been required to run a 2015 timetable on the modern layout, please read these notes carefully.

Freight services are what actually ran on Wednesday 7th October 2015.

An 0445 start is included. Ensure the Ely West Curve box is ticked on start-up.

Enjoy! If you have any problems, questions or encounter bugs, please post them below.

Important Notes

In December 2011, an additional island platform was brought into use at Cambridge, in the area formerly occupied by the Goods and Reception lines. In order to replicate this in the simulation, Cambridge TC Roads 1 & 2 have been used as platforms 7 and 8 respectively. The Goods lines no longer exist, and should not be used, however TC roads 3-5 remain.

As these lines are Goods lines, all passenger train classes that are required to use them have 'Use Freight Line Speeds' ticked to prevent drivers challenging the route. This has been found not to affect running times, however be careful not to route trains onto Goods line elsewhere in the simulation, as the drivers will accept them.

Cambridge and Cambridge TC are seperate locations in the simulation. Therefore, if delays or failures require you to run a train booked to call at platforms 7/8 to platforms 1-6, or vice-versa, you'll have to edit the train's timetable to use either Cambridge or Cambridge TC as appropriate, otherwise drivers will complain of a wrong route.

The Cambridge simulation pre-dates the ability to seed trains in the simulation; as such trains will enter at various sidings at the start of the simulation. Where these trains are electric entering at a diesel siding, a special train type has been used solely for these moves.

Service Pattern:

Abellio Greater Anglia

2tph Liverpool St- Cambridge, one calling at all stations, the other semi-fast
1tph Stanstead Airport- Cambridge
1tph Norwich- Cambridge
1tph Ipswich- Cambridge (via Dullingham)
1tp2h Ipswich- Peerborough via Soham.

Services south of Cambridge are formed of a mixture of 317 and 379 EMUs. The rest are DMUs, which have been assumed to be 170/2s. In reality, 156s can be used on the Dullingham route. Additional trains run during the peak, some of which continue to Ely and Kings Lynn.

Thameslink (Great Northern)

2tph London King's Cross- Cambridge non-stop, one of which continues to Kings Lynn calling at all stations beyond Cambridge.
1tph London King's Cross- Cambridge semi-fast, calling at Royston
1tph London King's Cross- Cambridge, calling at all stations (within the simulation area)

Additional services run during the peaks to Ely, Kings Lynn and terminating at Royston. Services to Kings Lynn are generally formed of an 8-car unit from London, with the front four continuing beyond Cambridge. The return working from Kings Lynn joins the carriages left at Cambridge, and continues to London.

Services are predominantly Class 365s, with some 317s. Class 321s make an occasional appearance.

Cross Country

1tph Birmingham New Street- Stanstead Airport

Operating using Class 170s, with a mix of 2 and 3 car units and sub-classes.

East Midlands Trains

1tph Liverpool Lime Street- Norwich (via Peterborough, reversing at Ely)

Formed of single Class 158 DMUs.

Freight

Perhaps surprisingly, the Cambridge area sees a wide variety of freight traffic, with quite a few sidings on the route being used. The main flow is container traffic from Felixstowe Port to the north, which runs via Soham and Peterborough. Additional trains serve the recycling plant at Whitemoor, which handles used permanent way materials. Also served is the tip on the Barrington branch, and the Papworth sidings at Ely. As it's autumn, several Sandite trains will appear throughout the day.

Freights use a generic type based on the traffic, the length of which is a best-guess.

Hints and Tips

- Be careful at Royston, especially during the peaks or when a freight train is present.
- The line from Ely to Ely North Jn is bi-directional.

Have fun!

Timetable needs an adjustment.

2H20 needs next working 5H93-1
5H93-1 needs next working 5H93-2

2H20 had the next working changed from 5H93 to 5H93-1, although in testing it worked correctly.

5H93-1's timetable is correct: Cambridge Loco Sidings is an exit location, so there is no next working. Rules prevent 5H93-2 leaving the sidings before 5H93-1 arrives.

5H93-2 never appeared would it need a rule to enter X minutes after it exited?

The relevant rule is set up. I'm not sure why 5H93-2 didn't appear: it should enter at 20:30, and did so during testing.

0L39-2 does not appear from the Cripple siding at Ely Reception to couple to 6L39 despite 0L39-1 going in to the Cripple Siding. The rule says it mus appear 2 minutes later. So far I've been waiting 2 hours!

Could you post a saved game? I didn't encounter this during testing.

Hit the "Reply" or "Quote" button below the message to which you are responding or the "Reply Topic" button at the top of the page. You then get the box to add your text and below the box another section of the screen marked "Attachments". Click the "Add File" button and then browse your system until you find the relevant saved game.

If you ever want to insert a picture or screenshot into a posting rather than having an attachment, make sure your cursor is where you want the picture to show then use the "Attachments" section. Once you have found your file, another button marked "Insert" appears beside the file name in the "Attachments" area. Click on that and the picture is inserted where your cursor is lying in your message.

Thanks for that postal, but the issue I have is not with the reply but where to find the saved game as it doesn't appear to be in the relevant directory on my files.

Should be in C:\Program Files (x86)\SimSig\Cambridge

Assuming you installed it in the default location. To access C:\, go to 'My Computer'.

If you are on windows 7 or newer, windows doesn't let programs store save data in the real program files folder, so it makes a fake one, try opening your file explorer and pasting %appdata%\..\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files (x86)\SimSig or if you are on a 32bit machine then %appdata%\..\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files\SimSig into its address bar and the saves should be in there; %appdata% is a hiddenfolder where programs get to store there stuff that you might not be able to navigate to without typing this in if you don't have show hidden folders on.

Now I've moved to windows 10 the button has gone away and I had forgotten about it; but yes on windows 7 and vista programfiles will just have the show compatibility files button in it to show the moved files without going to where they actually are which might be easier to use if you are using windows7.

Interesting- the TT lists the train as having entered, and the rule as being used. I'm not sure what could've caused that- you didn't reverse 0L39-2 using F2 at any point, did you?

Do you have a save from before the run-round started? I'm at a loss as to what's happened.

I think I know what's going wrong - when you're starting a new sim with the 04:45 timetable, the old core code Cambridge is running on looks at the timetable for 0L39-2 and sees that it should have entered ages ago (more than four hours), so the train is simply cancelled before entering and subsequently marked as entered in the sim.
The current core code on the other hand treats an entry time of "00:00" as a special case, so those trains are never cancelled regardless of the timetable starting time.

So as a workaround, all untimed trains, whose entry is solely governed by rules, need to have their entry time changed to 04:45 in the 04:45 start timetable.

Two million people attempt to use Birmingham's magnificent rail network every year, with just over a million of them managing to get further than Smethwick.

Yes, I used the 04:45 startup timetable. Unfortunately I don't have a pre-12:00 save for that game.

In your saved simulation, you could simply duplicate 0L39-2 to get a fresh copy which hasn't been marked as already entered by the sim. In the F4 timetable list, select 0L39-2, hit "Duplicate", set "Increment ID by" to 0 and likewise "Increment time" to 00:00 and you're good to go.

Ah- that would explain it! Thank you, I didn't know about that particular quirk.

I'll fix it for the next release.
