Enjoying this timetable but still hankering after a fully (Peak) loco hauled tt for West Hampstead. I know Pascal has said in his notes that some fiddling is necessary to get the joining loco to attach to the very long Land Cruise Charter service but try as I might 0Z95 is stubbornly refusing to join to its train. Instead it just sits there with F2 reporting train 1Z95 in front. Have tried shunt forward, update tt location and abandon / reassign tt all to no avail/ Any guidance would be gratefully achieved so that I can complete this interesting tt. Log in to reply |

I assume that you have checked that the tt of both trains has the same current location? Have you tried reversing direction etc with the train rather than the engine? Sometimes that works. We really need a "Force Join" command! Kev Log in to reply The following user said thank you: Javelin395 |

Thanks Kev. Think I did try that but I've been strangely absent-minded of late so I will go back and give it another go just to make sure !! Have just given it another go. Having instructed 1Z95 to reverse direction the F2 menu just says 'manually reversing' but nothing else happens. I also note that F2 shows 0Z95 location as Dock South Jn even though I have updated this via F2 > timetable options > edit timetable > location. I think 0Z95 must be at St Pancras as 1Z95 is on the blocks and showing as waiting for joining train whilst 0Z95 is showing as train 1Z95 in front. Is the light loco actually in the platform? It will exhibit that behaviour if it is not *at* the joining location. RE manually reversing: there is a minimum one minute delay while manually reversing (doesn't apply for timetabled reversals). SimSig Boss Log in to reply |

When we carried out the testing neither 0Z95 or 1Z95 would join, but the way round it was to reverse the loco 0Z95 so it moved away from 1Z95 or 5Z95 & then reverse it back & then they both joined OK. It's a bit of an anomaly this one. Once the loco has joined to 5Z95 the driver will recieve a phone call & he needs to be advised to proceed at caution & obey all other signals. This was normal practice for this train as it was well past the signal at the end of P7 at St. Pancras. There definately isn't a timetable issue regarding this problem as we sucessfully managed to get both bits to join whilst the tt was tested. This is a photo I took at St. Pancras back in 1988 which IIRC shows 47615 on the front of a loco hauled set which extends beyond the signal at the end of P7 at St. Pancras. The loco is on the bridge at the station throat as you can see in this photo. Post has attachments. Log in to view them. Log in to reply The following user said thank you: Javelin395 |

Thanks one and all. Kev's suggestion did the trick - reversed the stock back onto the light loco. Hadn't realised there was a minimum delay with the manual reversing so my impatience got the better of me !! Geoff, is the manually reversing a new feature as I don't seem to recall this ? Firstly the St. Pancras area would have to be altered to the layout which was in situ when West Hampstead PSB came online during 1980/81. Geoff does have the relveant signalling notice as I sent it to him, which also includes Cambridge Street loco servicing point & secondly station working books for St. Pancras pre 1989 seem to be very rare. Someone I know who was Duty Shift manager there during the late 1970s is looking into seeing if he can find one for me, but without one it wouldn't be easy to write a coherent timetable under the present layout in the eriod prior to the HSTs taking over the Inter City services on the Mifdland Mainline. Hopefully at some point in the future then yes one could be done with the Cl.127 DMUs as well. The option to reverse has always been there; the delay while reversing (and consequential new state) is new. Some people were a little too eager on reversing trains so they wouldn't see an aspect change - ie using it as a cheat.

Thanks Geoff. Yes, I didn't express myself very well there. I was meaning the condition 'manually reversing' in the F2 window and attendent delay seemed new rather than the ability to reverse a train !! Log in to reply |

Did anybody have any luck with the reverse movement on Friday, i.e. getting 5E94 and 0Z94 to join? Reversing 0Z94 back and forth didn't have any success and reversing 5E94 initially didn't work because of lack of motive power. In the end I had to re-join 5E94 and 0E94 so I could reverse them onto 0Z94 (for some reason or other, during that process 5E94 was stuck at "Manually reversing" for almost five minutes), before finally detaching 0E94 again. Two million people attempt to use Birmingham's magnificent rail network every year, with just over a million of them managing to get further than Smethwick.
