As mentioned in another thread, this year's Autumn meet will be held in London on October 15th (note: a month earlier than usual). It will be held at The Plough in London (map here), expected to be 12 noon to 6pm as usual, with a possible curry afterwards.

More details in due course but the date and venue are confirmed.

It has been a long time since I was in London so I will try and make this.

For reasons which will become clear in due course, our Autumn meet will take place at The Plough, Museum Street, London (halfway between Tottenham Court Road and Holborn stations) on 15th. October. More details will follow presently. [.....] There was no signs or indications of a possible Tyne, Doncaster or any other surprise Sim that may be waiting in the wings.

I will be interested to learn what those reasons are: I wonder if we will see another London sim in connection with this. Meanwhile I would welcome Tyneside and Doncaster if they ever appear: I believe those would both chain to York?

I'm wondering if Geoff has a direct interest in it being the specified date.

7 year anniversary of the 2009 groundhog day timetables.

Popped this post back in as it disapeared elsewhere. Amazing how far Simsig has come since the old days running an "up to date" 2009 timetable on a paged .exe sheffield

On the subject of the date being important that evening of 15 October 1987 the great storm struck Southern England.

There have been several events on 15th October throughout railway history. I list some below. Now if Geoff has made the 15th October London Meet a significant date, I suspect we are looking at a sim to chain with York!

The Cowden Rail Crash 15th October 1994

Swaythling Station opened 15th October 1883

The Mid-Sussex Railway opened its line between Horsham and Petworth 15th October 1859

Tragic accident at Shrewsbury 15th October 1907, 18 fatalities and 61 injured (LNWR)

Stockton and Darlington Railway opened 15th October 1825

Can't wait to signal one of Adrian Shooter's Vivarail cheap-and-cheerfuls when that is released.

Found this video - interesting concept in "open" carriages in the middle carriage: preparing for the Indian market?

Poppleton would be one idea but I wonder if we might end up with something slightly bigger. Poppleton would indeed chain to York but so does (or should) Leeds (wonder if that will be fixed in time for a chain at the meet?). On the other hand Doncaster would chain to both York and Leeds so if that was released with an update to fix the York / Leeds chaining issue that would be fun.

Poppleton was meant to be a joke. IIRC it has 4 signals, one point, and a level crossing.

Regarding the Leeds/York black hole of Sherburn, I have a solution I intend to work on this week which would involve a minor amendment to the Leeds and York sims.

(The technical description is that the two sims do actually overlap in their off-screen areas so it's a case of trains either (a) falling off if not chained; (b) handing over to York/Leeds (as appropriate) if only those are chained; (c) handing over to Milford if that sim exists and is chained)

I've got the day booked off work. Given the distance from me I intend to prebook. How far in advance are prebookings accepted? I know I've seen several posts previously about getting in early for cheaper tickets.

also my perspective of distance in london is quite poor. I've looked at the map provided. It is a reasonable walk from St Pancras?

Be about a 15-20 minute walk if you get your skates on.

(Alternatively you can get the Piccadilly Line to Holborn which is a stone's throw away)

Generally 12 to 13 weeks depending on TOC and where you are travelling from.

Very easy and reasonable and by the time you've faffed around with tube tickets, escalators/lifts whatever there's probably not a lot in it time-wise plus you get to see some of London's nicer architecture around Bloomsbury.

Or bus no 10/73/390 from the other side of Euston Road to the bottom of Bloomsbury Street so you can see a lot of the same architecture while saving your feet. Again not a lot in it as far as time is concerned (and I think you need to faff around getting a ticket before you get on the bus).

If you have a contactless payment card you don't need a ticket. Most debit and credit cards are contactless these days and TfL calculates capping in the same way as an Oyster card.

Same applies for the tube but appreciate this means you wouldn't get to see this rather charming part of Town.
