It would be wonderful if we could see the train type (ie. HST, Class 91) in the F2 view, since the description really helps me visualize what is going on in the sim. Currently, I believe the only way to see the train type is to open the train's timetable editor.

Also, there is a bug where all the trains in the sim have their train type reset to "Custom" after loading a saved game.

If the timetable author has populated the Description field for each train then that appears in the F2 window. Certainly the Groundhog timetables come with the train type in the Description.

Yes, the Description does show up in the F2 window (i.e. 1600 Kings Cross-Edinburgh), but the Train Type (i.e. HST or Class 91) does not. In particular, I am looking at the 4 Day timetable and Steam timetable for Kings Cross, which do not list the train type in the Description field. I was asking if there was a way to see the Train Type as well in the F2 window.

The bug appears in all the Loader sims, as well as some older ones such as Carlisle.

So those timetables lack useful information in the Description field. Neither of those are Groundhog Day timetables.

I've just loaded a handful of saves and all the trains come up with their categories still allocated. The only ones that came up as Custom were those that had custom selected in their original timetable (ie the WTT file, not the .SSG save). Can you identify a single train in a single timetable and simulation so we can check please?

I've attached a save made earlier today from Leeds. Loader 4.5.11, Sim 1.2.

2Y64, 2Y14 and 2P23 exhibit the behaviour described- go to F2, Edit timetable and 'train characteristics' shows 'custom'. The actual characteristics listed are correct though, and none of those trains have joined or split since entering the simulation.

First reported on the Forum on 16/02/12 - see this topic.

Logged on Mantis on 07/08/14 as #0011339. It was closed as "no change required". Geoff's comment was "By design: once the train has entered its timetable is completely disassociated with the F4 timetable list. The alternative would be confusion if the user edits the train category (or, worse, deletes it) and wonders why it's not reflected in the train. ".

Is there some confusion here between the Train Description on the Train Details tab of the train's TT and the Train Type showing in the Train Characteristics tab. As Geoff noted in the Mantis report, the Train Type will always show as Custom if the TT for the live train is selected from the F2 window. However, the Description should always carry forward correctly.

Ah interesting, I see. So not a bug but working as intended.

Going back to my original suggestion, can we please have an option to add an column to the F2 page that shows the Train Type? Looking at the Simplifier, there is a column with this information already there, so would it be possible to make this information appear in the F2 view as well? Thanks!

I have been updating the Saltley and Bristol for a little while now for example 2J02-E ( LM Cl 158-3 Car-Turbo-DMU-075 ). The suffixes indicate the speed A 125 E 75 this is only used for passenger trains obviously. For goods trains it will be 4M76 ( DRS Cl 37 x 2-054-060 ) BNF Train the 054 is the trailing load and 060 is the maximum speed but I think by the time I have finished doing all this they will both be loader Sims not sure if I will be able to upload them

Saltley is already a loader sim and has been for some time.

Timetables should in theory be forward compatible.

Which timetable is that train from, and what's the format of that description? I ask as it seems to have mixed up about 3 different types of train into the same description.

Yes, it is great to have all this information in the train description. Unfortunately, there are quite a few timetables that don't include the rolling stock in the description.

So to improve the information available to the player, especially in multiplayer where the timetable editor is not available, can we please add an option to add an column to the F2 page that shows the Train Type? Looking at the Simplifier, there is a column with this information already there, so would it be possible to make this information appear in the F2 view as well?

Forgive me for playing devils advocate, but why? As you say it's already in the simplifier, and there's no guarantee that the timetable writer has used a meaningful name for the train category - indeed most freights in my timetables are done as "custom" as they use to-the-metre lengths rather than generic 3/400m etc.

It's not particularly easy to track down the train in the simplifier. You need to open up the train's timetable, look at its next timepoint, find that location in the simplifier, and then search through the list of train IDs to find that train. If the train is delayed, it may be further necessary to change the time that you are looking at. It would be much easier to have a column in the F2 view so that you can instantly see that information.

Although freights may be custom, TT writers almost always have a category assigned to passenger trains, which generally make up the bulk of most sims. In addition, since we can choose which columns to display in the F2 view, the player can always choose to hide the column if it's not useful to them.

You can create a train type for each consist. Quite a few (like for instance) will duplicate. All of pascals TTs use this format so you can see exactly what you're signalling.
