Track section TTS on the Down Slow at Thirsk has failed. Train 1P38 has been asked to pass signal 421 at danger and check the track (the route was set and since been manually cancelled). He has reached the station and is stopped on the faulty track section and has called to say no obstruction found. However he hasn't yet reached the next signal, 427, nor checked track section TTT in advance of the station, as one would expect.

Edit: 1P38 subsequently accelerated away from Thirsk up to line speed and did not stop at signal 427 to report again.

Yeah, trains seem to be distracted by platforms and fail to examine the line further on. Happens on all sims on recent loader. Especially notable on KX sim with platforms in long 2-aspect signalled sections, eg. Watton-On-Stone.

Can you provide confirmation of the exact signal the driver has reported the result of the Reg 20 request. I know which I suspect but if you can please confirm.

Paul

You have to get a red before you can get any other colour

What do you mean by that, Paul? There isn't anything in the message that refers to signal numbers.

I thought that you got a signal number when the train rang in. I suspect it has used the 'phone' at the shunt limit marker. I am also wondering what the 'driver' was told at that call i.e was he told to carry on with his examination of the line as he had not yet checked the defective section.

No, you just get the train ID

Having tested it, the only possible option is to accept his report - he can't be instructed to continue examining the line.

Could this be a situation where the driver can "see" the signal from the station?

I mean in the same way that they won't start away from a station stop against a red, and in this case there just happens to be an intervening track circuit?

Only if drivers can see the signal miles ahead, eg. in the Watton-On-Stone scenario.

That might be possible, actually, in this situation. Thirsk's in the middle of a very long straight stretch of line - certainly, when driving a car along the Thirsk bypass, where you cross over the line you can see the aspects of several successive Up signals.
