I have just brought my first Simsig, Fenchurch Street. As a complete beginner I decided to play on, I guess, the equivalent of easy mode. I'm using the on board morning timetable and I'm at about 6 o'clock. I first watched some tutorials beforehand to get an idea on what's happening and what to do. In the tutorial the guy was talking about how to set routes for trains normally (he was at Aston) and how you would do this if a train needed to be moved somewhere else. Now I started up the simulation and was quite ready to set my first train its first route. But then I noticed that the signals were doing it themselves. I know what ARS is and I've watched a few videos of real life signal boxes and how the computer is doing all the routes, but I guess that I didn't read the thing in the manual that said that Fenchurch St. had full ARS. I know that ARS doesn't do everything so in a failure I would have to route a train myself, but I was just wondering if there was anything else to do then just watch red lines move in and out of Fenchurch St. I also know how naive I must sound, when all is fine the signaller does just look at it. The next SimSig I'll buy I'l make sure that it isn't ARS, I only brought Fenchurch Street because it didn't look to confusing for a beginner. I havn't done the whole simulation yet so I guess at some point something could happen where I get involved. But, in the mean time is there anything else?

You can switch ARS off by right clicking the sub-area buttons. You can switch off as many or as few as you wish and then manually operate the areas they control. Peter I identify as half man half biscuit - crumbs! Log in to reply |

Welcome to SimSig. Sims with full ARS will run themselves.....well almost....BUT you can turn areas of the ARS off. Doing so means you have to signal the areas manually instead. Spread across the sim you'll notice some pink buttons. These are the ARS active buttons. If you right-click on one of them it will deactivate and turn grey. The ARS in that particular area of the sim will now be turned off. ARS operation is also cancelled if you manually cancel a route too. If that happens, the ARS active button that corresponds to the area of the sim you cancelled a route in will flash to warn you which area ARS has been turned off. You can therefore run the sim partly in ARS and partly in manual. The areas that you leave in "ARS" mode will continue to work ARS so you can therefore select as many areas as you feel comfortable to signal manually while leaving ARS to do the rest. Obviously the more of the areas you switch to manual, the more difficult the signalling will become. Log in to reply The following user said thank you: GraphiteProjekt |

Thanks The timetable includes an eight hour gap so I've decided to set up a few trains and turn off all the ARS so I can practise my route setting. Log in to reply |
