Train waiting at yellow signal stating it's red 29/07/2016 at 18:47 #83842

I have a TCF in front of signal 482 and a train (1F42) at Smethwick Galton Bridge. I received a phone call from 1F42 stating it was waiting at a red signal despite the signal showing a yellow as the section from signal 478 to 480 is clear. Is this a bug? Attached is screenshot and save file.

Update: I authorised train to pass signal at danger and it proceeded to pass the yellow signal (478) but also the red one (480) as well.

EDIT - Trains not booked to stop at SGB stop at signal 480 correctly.

At a guess the train is actually stopped beyond the yellow signal so the next is actually the Red one. Trains that stop at stations within sighting distance of the next signal will not move if it is Red.

There was an example on Westbury where the signal location is set wrong in the data but looks right on the screen.

Looking at the stopping point for Sandwell & Dudley it appears to be the same case.

The initial information in the screenshot and your description seem somewhat contradictory. The F2 list clearly states the train is waiting for right-away which indicates the train doesn't think its at a red signal at all. If it did, I would expect it to say "Stopped at red signal".

This is further clarified by the fact when you subsequently told it to pass signal at red, it went past 480 without stopping. This indicates when you gave that order, the signal directly in front of 1F42 wasn't red and the train ran up to and then passed the first red signal it got which was signal 480.

Ive not got access to the sim so I cannot tell, was the save game from the time of the screenshot or before this happened? If it's at the time of the screenshot, the save is too late as the event has already happened. What would be more useful is a save just prior to the issue. If you have such a save (perhaps an autosave) try running from that point, concentrating just on the affected area, and see what happens second time around. Does it do it again? If its a bug, it should and in that case, post the save just prior to the issue instead.

Now THAT is wrong. Looks like the auto signal is missing a TC. Turn on TC breaks using display options. Is it the overlap for that signal?

Just looked at station photos....signals look like they are at/off the end of the platforms so they are at least drawn in the right places. For it to be what Peter is suggesting, the signal position/stopping position would need to be wrong AND the next signal would need to be within 700m (or whatever the sighting distance may be set at for signal 480). If any of those isn't true then that's not the problem. As it auto's, I'd expect teh TC's to be at least a kilometer apart (though they may not be of course) and so my gut reaction is this isn't the issue.

The F2 list will always show 'waiting for right away' when stopped at a platform with a red signal (assuming it has finished 'loading'). I'm playing Wembley Mainline at the moment, 1H09 is stuck in P13 by a TC Failure and is showing 'waiting for right away at Euston'.

There's the right way, the wrong way and the railway.

The train phoned up stating it was at a red signal whilst on the train list it shows as waiting for right away. I thought that if a train was waiting at a station to leave but the signal isn't clear the train list would say 'waiting for right away'? I didn't have a save before but occupying the track circuit using F11 gives the same result. The train phones up at Smethwick Galton Bridge station claiming to be waiting at signal 480 which means signal 478 could be before SGB station?

It is the overlap for the signal.

Yep....Photos do indicate the signals could be on either end of the platform so eitehr the signal position of the stopping point (or possibly both) are wrong as Peter suggested. I'm not going to have access to Mantis till I get home later this evening so someone will need to log both of these as I am unable to.

I'm pretty sure, Chris, I've had a train call detained at red with the F2 status showing "Waiting rightaway". There has also been times where the train has moved off then stopped at the red before reporting detention. I would imagine the former would be due to a signal at the end of the platform whereas the latter is where the signal looks like its at the end of the platform on the sim but is actually some distance from the platform.

This indicates when you gave that order, the signal directly in front of 1F42 wasn't red and the train ran up to and then passed the first red signal it got which was signal 480.
Under normal circumstances (IE: not using F11), 2 conditions have to be met before a train can be authorised to pass a red signal:-
1. The signal has to be either red or unlit,
2. The train has to be detained (IE: stopped or awaiting rightaway) at that signal.
If either of the above conditions are not met, a rejection message will indicate thus, such as "Train is not stopped at signal". The command "Authorise driver to pass red signal" applies to the next signal, not the next RED (or unlit) signal. I have never known of a situation where you can authorise a train to pass signal 2 before it has passed signal 1.

The above conditions do not need to be met if you command the driver to "Pass next signal irrespective of aspect shown" using F11, however, this still only applies to the signal the train is approaching and not any subsequent signal.
