I've been working on the south coast for the last few months but this week was my first experience of any LCs on the West Coastway. Apart from the skew of a couple being less than optimal for a bike... One question I had was specifically referring to West Worthing. There's a 4 way road junction which envelops the level crossing.

Presumably the level crossing must have some form of interaction with the road signals (which are separate to the level crossing signals) - could someone enlighten me? The barriers went up but the lights didn't change!

My understanding is that there is some kind of interlocking such that the barriers can't be lowered unless the relevant traffic lights are red. That is, the "barriers down" button is disabled when the road lights are green or amber. I guess there's also a "request the road lights" button on the LC control panel.

There is a level crossing at Sleaford beside a road junction. There are the usual flashing red lights, but in addition the traffic lights for routes over the crossing are held red when the crossing is down.

Could this thread be place in the relevant sim?

For one that does not live in the Uk, it is rather difficult to establish the LC location.

No because the crossing doesn't exist in a simulation that has been developed.

Rest assured if a West Coastway sim did exist I'd have placed it in there! I've used enough forums in my lifetime to know my etiquette!

Thanks to Clive for the information. Presumably there are some controls to "rush" the traffic? I'd be interested to know how simple it is to integrate the wiring/logic/etc of a railway installation and a road signal one, which I imagine are two entirely separate beasts!

No interlocking just a good old fashioned human being... the LC barriers can be lowered straight away if needed. But we normally use a phase advance button sometimes referred to as a hurry button, this enables us to speed up the traffic light phase so the traffic lights are showing red before we lower the barriers.
I have included an image below... sorry about the quality.
