Hi all!

I'm creating a recreation of a railway line for a university assignment and while I've got the track and signals in place, I'm struggling to find the font which the stations and writing is used in the simulations. I think the font is a generic universal font, however if it is not, what is the closest font to the writings?

Many thanks

SimSig uses its own, hand-drawn font.

SimSig uses a bespoke font, installed with the System Files. It's called 'SimSigv2', and is listed along with the other fonts in some programs, but not all. The full font can be found using Character Map (All Programs-> Accessories-> System Tools-> Character Map).

As a general note, be sure to reference SimSig as the source of the font in your assignment.

Not sure that copyright or intellectual property rights are that easy. Perhaps we need to see if GeoffM has any comment to make.

I'd be happy with a reference to SimSig.

Someone made a application that allows people to draw thier own panel.
Where or how you get it these days I'm not sure.

If you wish to draw a layout in the SimSig style, I can send you a test program that is suitable for Windows laptops, But note that the layout is only in black and grey. Send me a PM (a private message) with your email address to receive a copy.

Sorry to drag this one back.

Has anyone managed to convert the SimSig font into a TTF?

Thanks

That won't be a quick and easy job as Simsigv2 appears to be a bitmap (.fon) file which isn't really scalable beyond a few points larger than original size whereas Truetype (along with Type 1) are outline (vector) fonts which can be scaled up to (in theory) over 999 point without looking all 'blocky'.

One user I found on the Internet used Autotrace and Fontforge (both open source) to trace the bitmap characters into scalable outlines which he/she then used Fontforge to place the character outlines into a .TTF font file.
