Some of the more complex boxes can get a bit mad. At Euston (not the modern Wembley Main Line sim but Clive's simulation of the 1965 powerbox) it was said there were a number of nervous breakdowns in the early days, with tales of signalmen working Euston panel on their bedroom wall in the middle of the night (heard from an old-hand relief signalman). Eventually a third signalman was rostered (on the day turns, not sure about nights) in this two-position box, with a maximum of 4 hours allowed on the Station End panel. After the peak, the spare man would take over Camden End and the Camden End man would move to Station End, whose signalman would then settle down to breakfast/dinner and a well-earned rest. Of course the spare man was always available to cover loo breaks and such, as well as making the regular brews that, anywhere else, were the responsibility of the Assistant Controller (the LMR's modern term for Box Lad).

Hi raflec, They won't be daunting a difficult ifyou start with some of the eary ones like Royston or Maidstone East and work your way up, perhaps Huddersfield, Watford or Coventry then head up to the more difficult ones like New Street.. Greetings Raflec As well as the likes of Maidstone East, I can heartily recommend Oxted and Lancing. Oxted will get you used to starting to make regulating decisions (a number of sections of single line) and Lancing will be a good start to learning the art of working level crossings (Very simple two track railway but with a large number of crossings) Lastly just have to say enjoy your time with us.
