With paypal you do not need a paypal account, on the payment screen there should be an option to checkout as guest. so you could complete your transaction with out signing up to paypal.

Yep, I haven't got a Paypal account and have bought many sims, you can just use your Credit/Debit card without an account.

You should find this option, though there have been reported issues with certain browsers and access in certain countries.

Click on 'Pay with Paypal' (which is not intuitive)and then 'Checkout as a guest' which allows card details to be entered.

Why is it not intuitive? PayPal is still processing the payment.

I think the intuitive part is about clicking on "Pay with PayPal" when you don't have or want a PayPal account.

Correct, how can it be possibly intuitive that clicking on 'pay with paypal' will lead you to being able to pay by credit card without a paypal account!!

I think you're confusing "pay with PayPal *account*" with "pay with PayPal (as the payment processor)"

Hi and welcome. Click on the Products link above in the menu bar and you should be able to navigate down through the submenus.

QED. With that statement you have just been hoist by your own petard, admitting that it is not intuitive.

You need to apply the 'Man on the Clapham Omnibus test' he will not associate a Pay with Paypal logo as the ability to pay by alternative means. Just because you are aware that Paypal is a payment processor don't assume that everybody else is.

What an odd reply, I fail to see why a book about punctuation is relevant to a discussion regarding the intuitivity (or not) of a 'Pay with Paypal' logo when wishing to pay by credit card.

Note the thanks from Dick, but deleted post as an unnecessary rant.

It was more of an observation than a reply.
Eats, shoots and leaves, while indeed being the title of a book, is also a statement in its own right that is capable of being read as having two meanings.

You'd better tell PayPal that they've been confusing their millions of users every day with their "pay with PayPal" buttons!

You obviously went to the same charm school as Willie Walsh and have about as much respect for your customers. I shall say no more and I doubt I will be buying any more of your sims.

Geoff

With all due respect, I think you are so busy defending your own position that you've lost sight of the discussion. No-one is arguing about what PayPal does or how SimSig interfaces with PayPal. The discussion is about how well you are serving your customer base by giving them clear and easily understandable information. In regard to the PayPal button you have been so busy assuming that everyone has the same knowledge about PayPal as you that you have completely lost sight of the need to give your customers that information.

I would never willingly click on a PayPal button to make payment for anything (irrational maybe but there are lots like me). Could you take me through the process by which I know as your customer that I am not falling into the clutches of PayPal but can use that button to pay without having to set up a PayPal account? If I am one of the proportion who have tried to steer clear of PayPal (or am just growing up and entering the world of e-commerce) there is no way that I as your customer will know that is an option.

So back to the original point Dick made. It is not intuitive (despite all the defences you have put up in this thread) that the lay user knows he/she can pay without a PayPal account by clicking on the Pay with PayPal button. If you think it is intuitive then perhaps we have different definitions of that word.

Even if you think that people paying you money should take the trouble to know as much as you about payment systems, would it not be more customer friendly when taking their money to explain the option of the PayPal button (even if only by putting a little note with it saying "No PayPal account needed" ) before separating them from their money?

For information, if you don't live in the UK, you can't pay in sterling by Paypal without an account, as the system will only validate a UK postal address against a sterling credit card.

After a number of years using the sterling balance on my wife's Paypal account, I took the plunge a couple of months ago and opened a French Paypal account and added my UK credit card to it. This was entirely painless, and Paypal automatically proposes the sterling credit card for a sterling payment, thereby avoiding any fees.
