Points 1197A/B form a trailing crossover between the UFL and the DFL at Fletton and appear in both eras of the sim (see attachment). They appear in the Sectional Appendix for those eras so the sim is true to life in this respect.

As far as I can see, no routes call these points reverse in the sim but they are able to be called reverse manually by right clicking on them. Setting a route on the main lines through them after they have been moved reverse manually calls them normal, so they are detected and proven.

There are no routes (that I've found) to the south from P4 or P5 (save for the DSL) in which they could have been used to return a train departing south from those two platforms to the UFL.

Their only use would seem to be (or have been) that of an emergency crossover which would need to be hand-cranked, clipped and scotched but in this case they would not be power operated. They are NOT marked as an emergency crossover in the various Sectional Appendices of the period.

Has anyone any idea of what use they are, or what use they were put to?

Not necessarily there's a set on Leamington Spa which are power operated but have no routes over them.

That's correct. Ditto the ones at Connington.

Reading the Rulebook sections P1 and S5, it appears to me that power-operated points with an integrated facing lock (as these do) can be passed at up to 25 mile/h without being secured and padlocked. So they could be used for single line working, for example.

I'm not sure when that crossover was put in - possibly at the time of electrification when the slow lines were removed south of Fletton. It wasn't part of the original work when Peterborough replaced Fletton SB. The same is true for the facing crossover at Connington.

Having been retired from the industry for 10 years my knowledge of the rulebook is fading and getting more obsolete with every year that passes.

The ECML did have a number of non-worked emergency crossovers used, as you say from SLW but I'd never come across a power worked set before.
