We are now 4 weeks away from the Meet at The Plough. There are currently only 14 people who have indicated that they will attend (of whom only 6 are bringing a computer for public use). If you do wish to attend (or have already signed up and are no longer intending to come) could you please go to this link from the Upcoming Events section of the web-site and book or cancel accordingly so that we can keep the venue updated about numbers.

It is going to be difficult to set up a substantial chain with only 6 laptops but hopefully that number will increase. Karl Latham (headshot119) will be putting something together for the day based on the number of panels we can cover. Whether it is something old, something new, something borrowed or something blue will depend on what kit we have and how Karl can make things fit.

In an ideal world it would be good if we could have 9 laptops excluding the one I’m bringing.

In an even more ideal world 11 would be better.

Maybe I should run the “pint for whoever guesses the sim” competition again.

With eleven laptops would that mean each Signaller would average less than one controlled signal?

A sim of 'Mach' (as I once heard an ATW guard call it) SCC might be interesting but not sure how good a sim Mach SCC would make as the area covered by it is largely single track I believe.

Another West Coast chain I assume....... 9 laptops for 9 sims.

SheepSim. Seriously, when I was there it was more about giving virtual green lights to sheep than to trains.

I'd go with my home guess of Preston, but Crewe raises my thoughts.

Always said I'd love to see Crewe, especially if it included some of the neighbouring AB boxes to make a larger area.

Manchester Piccadilly would also be great to see from a personal point of view!

Of course I'm sure a Newport area sim has been hinted at so wouldn't be entirely surprised to see that one appear.

Unfortunately I won't be able to make the meet as I'm at work and out of leave!

There's the right way, the wrong way and the railway.

Crewe would be fun. By AB boxes I take it you mean Nantwich, Wrenbury, Wem and Prees but those are all included in the Shrewsbury simulation.

I remember being at a meet once where someone (can't recall who) said they were going to concentrate on making this one a reality but I have heard nothing since. On the subject of Manchester, however, I wouldn't mind Manchester East or Manchester South, perhaps with Manchester North also. A decent size Manchester chain would be good fun.

Newport was trialed at a meet once before but I have heard nothing on that since.

Agreed. I said on the "Simulations Wish List" that I would like a GEML which included Norwich and Ipswich panels as well as Colchester ASC. No harm in adding Clacton into that but I think 6 areas (5 of which would be in Colchester ASC) might be a bit much in one sim.

No, by AB (they might not all be AB though) I mean ones like Coal Yard, Basford Hall, Salop Goods, Steel Works etc - the station panel on it's own is quite small geographically; many of the freight trains through the area never come under its control as they use the independent lines between Basford Hall and Coal Yard/Sandbach.

Ah ok thanks for the clarification. I had no idea there were still that many around Crewe.

Could also add in Winsford that controls from just outside of Coal Yard through to Weaver Jn (Winsford, Hartford, Hartford Jn, Acton Bridge) where it fringes with Halton/Runcorn and Warrington Ban Quay

Now wouldn't Doncaster go down just a treat but let's just settle for a London Bridge.

I would also welcome either of those, especially Doncaster which would permit an ECML chain (KX <-> Peterborough <-> Doncaster <-> Leeds <-> York <-> Tyneside) which would be great fun. London Bridge would be good also as that chains with at least some of the existing London sims.

I think I will throw a glance over the River Severn from where I live and guess that we will end up in Wales for the game played at the meet.

EDIT: In view of where in Wales I was working today, and the fact that I missed it when it was trialled at a previous meet, I will be more specific and guess Newport, possibly chained with Cardiff and the Valleys.

West Highland line before RETB - circa 20 boxes depending on era - and plenty of time to enjoy a beer between trains.
