Playing the great 1985 timetable for Cambridge and have had 7H93 stop at March East Junction. The location it's stopped at seems surprising, it's passed signal ME45 which seems to make sense as that would be the station, but is just sitting across the points of the junction with its trainload stretching back into the station still, whereas I had assumed it might pull further up towards ME44. Is this the right location? I can't imagine you would want to hold a train for passing like that or do crew changes or the like sat across a junction.

It's doing what the manual says. The problem is that there's nowhere obvious to be "March East Junction" for up trains: any further west and you're in the station, any further east and you're at March South. So I was left with the diamond crossing as Hobson's choice.

It's a timetable problem - Up trains from Peterborough shouldn't be timetabled to stop there and do anything for this very reason. It's not my timetable, so I don't know why the author did this.

The Timetable author would have done this because a few trains were actually booked to stop at March East Jn for crew relief.
In reality however it was the normal practice to stop in the station, which was ideal in the Up direction but less so for down trains. At one point an instruction was issued to the Signallers at March East that down trains must not stop in the platform, as this obstructed the road crossing and should stop in the Goods Lines for this purpose.
Today there are two GB Railfreight trains that are booked to stop for relief, one going to Middleton Towers 08.14-0816 in the Up direction and a loaded train returning from there which is booked to recess in the Down Goods for an hour mid morning.
