Yes, oddly linespeed on Fasts and "Slows" along that stretch is 125.

perhaps that may have been because it used to be the down fast when it was only a 2 track railway.....

I think equally likely that there is reversible signalling on the fasts (and a huge gap between up & down lines) so it can be used as a 2-track railway on Sundays when the Uncivil Engineer comes out to play.

Except where the pairs of lines use different bridge decks/spans, the distance between the Up and Down Fast isn't remarkably large. The gap's not even that big at Lichfield where of course there used to be a signal box in it!
