Trains not appearing but shown in timetable 03/09/2017 at 08:17 #101477

I'm sure this topic has been discussed already somewhere (but where?) and I'm sorry if I'm repeating a question already asked. However, I don't understand why trains shown in timetables fail to materialise in simulations. Is there a problem at my end or is this quite normal. I know some trains don't appear because they are shown to run only 40% of the time but is this the only explanation? I'm really curious!

Terry.

There are several reasons why a train may not appear.

There's the "runs a percentage of times" as you note.
There might be a rule in place that does not allow an entry unless some other event has taken place or some trains might be mutually exclusive, that is if one train runs then another does not.
Or there might be an error in the timetable.

Rules can be found under the relevant tab of the timetable editor (f4) and you can also analyse the timetable (different tab under f4) which will tell you of any errors. Warnings will not stop a train entering.

Caveat.

If you are analysing some of the more complex TTs (like some of Pascal's Day of the Week TTs) and there are complex joins/splits etc. depending on the day of the week, this gives the analyser indigestion and a large part of the analyser output may be gibberish.

Warnings or errors, I'd have thought an error is an error regardless.

Warnings

For example if 1A00 detaches or joins1A01MO in the Monday TT and 1A01MX for the rest of the week you see warning messages regarding the lengths not matching or TDs not being used or having already been used..

Currently the TT on which I am working analyses out at 133 warnings all of which are because of the split/join issues. As far as I can tell, apart from 1m rounding errors causing the odd length mismatch, nearly all of the warnings are fake news.

To give some body to my original question, I have been working on a Southampton simulation "3Hour Chaos". Right from the start, there are timetabled trains (50%) which do not appear: 2H11 Up Yard Signal 911 (15.01)no show; 1T11 Eling Tramway (15.05) no show; subsequent Eling Tramway trains also fail to show. Now, normally if there is late running, a message is received telling you but there are none regarding these trains. I also worked on another splendid but difficult Southampton simulation (Southampton Weekday 2016) where none of the light engines (Totton Loop) shown at the start of the timetable appear! My question is "why show these absent trains in the timetable?"

Terry.

It's highly unlikely they are absent deliberately.

If you open the timetable editing pane (F4), tools tab there is a button that says "Analyse Timetable" or similar - what does that produce?

Any trains with errors will not appear, any trains with warnings should appear, but may do odd things.

Ah! Many thanks for that response. I had not looked at the "analysis" feature! Question resolved.

When you have finished creating a train press the validate button at the bottom of the timetable tab. If there are errors then the train will not appear until they are resolved (These are the errors that show up in the Analyser
