I have recently purchased the York North/South sim and have been very happy with it. However, I have two questions and hope that someone will be able to help and make the sim much more enjoyable? 1/ How may I add sound for things such as the telephone, train entering the area and TRTS? I have downloaded some sounds as wav files and saved them in my Simsig folder but can't get them to work with the active simulation. 2/ Is there a file with the signal layout and numbers on? If so, where do I obtain it? Many thanks in advance for any help. Log in to reply |

Select the message type from the drop-down list, use the '...' button to find the sound file you want, and click the 'play sound' box. See this Wiki page. Thank you very much for your reply and advice. Unfortunately, I have followed your instructions regarding the sound but still can't get it to work. I may be doing something very basic wrongly but I'm not sure what exactly. Is it possible for you to take me through the process step by step please. I have downloaded the sound files (wav) and saved them in my Simsig folder in My Documents.

This brings up a page with an Event Settings section. Using the drop-down you can select which event you would like to generate a sound warning (maybe something like "train ready to start"). Then check the "play sound" box and use the icon with the three pips at the right hand end of the box to navigate to the sound you want to play when the event takes place. Finally, have you got the loudspeaker on your system enabled? “In life, there is always someone out there, who won’t like you, for whatever reason, don’t let the insecurities in their lives affect yours.” – Rashida Rowe Log in to reply |

I have done everything you've suggested but I'm still soundless. When I select the wav file, eg TRTS, and then select 'play sound', I hear the correct sound for an instant, then but it does not happen for TRTS on the actual simulation. I'm still pleading for help here.

However, other people have sounds working correctly so it may be that there is either something oddball about your system or you have missed one of the steps in the setting-up process. Have you tried assigning any sounds to any of the other actions that show in the drop down box to see if that works? Also bear in mind that a lot of the downloaded sounds last for only a second or two so you won't get anything ringing away at you for a length of time to attract your attention. You can check the individual sounds by opening the wav file in a media player. “In life, there is always someone out there, who won’t like you, for whatever reason, don’t let the insecurities in their lives affect yours.” – Rashida Rowe Last edited: 27/09/2017 at 19:03 by postal Reason: None given Log in to reply |

Do you have aggressive power-saving settings on your soundcard? It often takes a moment for a soundcard to wake up when a sound needs to be played - potentially longer than most of the sounds used by SimSig.

From the sounds of it when you set the sounds in F3 they play when you click the play button, but when you exit they don't. So first question is when you go back into F3 are the sounds still assigned or not? The second is when you exit from F3 do you click on the window exit (the red X in the top right hand corner) or click "OK".
