Hi all, Sorry if this is in the wrong place, please feel free to move it if necessary. I'm trying to get both Liverpool St and West Anglia to chain together for my own solo enjoyment. Rest assured I've followed the chaining instructions as detailed here: https://www.SimSig.co.uk/Wiki/Show?page=usertrack:ssrun:multiplayer:chaining. All seems to work well until after I've connected WA to Liv St, but then when I unpause Liv St, WA does not unpause with it even though it says its connected and says that un/pausing is not controlled when chained. Any help? All the best, Joe Log in to reply |

You did try unpausing the simulation on both sims didn’t you? To explain how it works:- If you Connect LivSt to West Anglia, West Anglia will Control the clock; whereas if you Connect West Anglia to LivSt; LivSt has control of the clock. Log in to reply |

When you chain the one sim to the other make sure that the "Synchronise time" box is checked. Kev Log in to reply |

Joe S in post 102001 said:Hi all,Joe, Have you made sure that both sims are opened with the same scenario/timetable and that the sim is opened in the correct era with both being set to open in a paused situation. Just small things but they may be your problem. I must admit that I am creating a timetable for both at the moment which is in the pre 2013 era for Liverpool Street and must admit that I have chained both together without this problem. I have watched an early morning ecs enter from Temple Mills and reverse at Tottenham Hale and go right through to the correct platform at Liverpool Street without any glitches. If you are unable to unpause the clock on either sim then it sounds like you have chained WA to LST and then LST to WA. You only need to chain in one direction, the sim you are chaining TO becomes the host and in control of the clock.

Although that shouldn't be possible, either - I've tried to and Simsig refuses the reverse chain attempt with a message of "This external signalbox is already connected".
Two million people attempt to use Birmingham's magnificent rail network every year, with just over a million of them managing to get further than Smethwick. Log in to reply |

I have tried with West Anglia as the main with Liverpool Street connecting to it (in before 2013 mode)and also vice versa with Liverpool Street as the main and they both work fine and as they should. I will try again with Liverpool Street in after 2013 and see what happens. Geoff Log in to reply |

I have been unable to recreate what was in the initial post, I have tried many combinations a posible, to no avail. I first chained using the loopback address (127.0.0.1) and all worked fine. the second using the internal/private IP (normally 192.168.x.x) and fine as well the third using my public IP and again no problems encountered. I have tried the above again but this time with the sync time unchecked and the only thing of note was that each sim in the chain had to be un/paused individualy in the chain. In this senario I did not get the message "cannot do due to being chained" (or words to that effect for the secondary/slave sim) Log in to reply |

Hi all, Many thanks for the myriad answers on this thread and sorry for the slowness to reply, real life work gets in the way with early shifts. It's clear I'm doing something fundamentally wrong then... With that in mind, here are some screenshots, and steps listed, of the process I am using to try to chain the sims; hopefully someone can point out where I'm going wrong. 1 - load up Liv St sim as normal, selecting 'enable' on run as SimSig server, port as the primary one 2 - load up West Anglia sim as normal, selecting 'enable' on run as SimSig service, port as the secondary one 3 - click on 'connect to external signalbox' under multiplayer, choose Liverpool St, using IP 127.0.0.1, primary port and synchronise time ticked 4 - this box pops up, states this in Liv St message box: "00:00:00 Client at 127.0.0.1:50179 has connected" 5 - this now seems, to me, to be fine? However I click on the clock on Liv St which gets the time going there and sim running, but on WA... the sim is still paused. I also clicked on the clock there, with the following message appearing, as can be seen in the message box. Post has attachments. Log in to view them. The pictures have helped, and I now belive you have missed a step in setting up, on the control panel that pops up for Liv St you need to accept the connection for the 2 sims to chain together (see attached pic) when the dialog box appears you should see it saying "establishing connections [user] - the ip address:port" (black arrow) selet that, then click click on "accept" once done Liv St should now say in the msg box "Now Synchronised With West Anglia" and the other sim should say "Now Synchronised With Liverpool Street" Post has attachments.
