When I ran the loader this afternoon, all of my paid-for sims were showing purple on the list, rather than black as normal. When I went into licence manager, they were all showing as allocated to another machine. I haven't changed my computer recently and was running paid for sims a few days ago with no problems. Is there a glitch in the SimSig system or has something horrible happened to my computer? Chris Log in to reply |

Mark Thanks for the quick reply. Of course, I changed my computer name the other day. When I first set up the PC, I made a typo and finally got round to changing it. I didn't expect any issues because of this but obviously there are some! If I change the name back, will I get access to my paid-for sims? Should I do that, unallocate the licences and then change it again (if I still want to) before reallocating them to the renamed computer? Thanks for your help. Chris Log in to reply |

I would always recommend when changing names on PC's to unallocate the license first. I do not know the ins and outs of how the licensing works but I do belive that the license allocates to the PC by using the pc's unique identifer (there is more components that it uses no doubt, but that is one component used) so any change to that will create a new UID even if the same name is put in a new UID is created. I found this out myself years ago by doing what you had done and changed my PC's name and had to request unlock license. Log in to reply |

Thanks again, Mark In the meantime, curiosity got the better of me so I changed the computer name back, rebooted and, hey presto, my licences are allocated once again. I'm now going to try removing them, changing the name again and then reallocating them. Chris Log in to reply |
