Hi all,

As someone who is beginning to struggle with his eyesight despite wearing glasses, can I ask that the font on the pop up message boxes be made bold and larger.

I - and I suspect others - have to get really close to the screen to see them.

On the Location List tab on the timetable of a train, the end of long locations is truncated, often missing out vital information such as "reverse". Can that column be made wider please.

I have the same problem. Can it be done easily, if at all? It would certainly be appreciated.

SimSig honours Windows DPI settings (unlike some of Microsoft's own programs!) (aka zoom) so you could look into that. The problem with using larger fonts is that others will complain that they're too big... can't win.

I do encourage developers to use shorter location names where possible but variable column widths is something I've thought about. It does introduce its own problems which I haven't worked through yet, hence no obvious progress.

Geoff,

Thank you for the response. I did actually believe it was a Windows setting and was aware that on Windows up to Win 7 this could be adjusted.

On Win 10, it still can be adjusted but the "scaling" option in display adjustments is, IMO is not good. It scales from 100% in 25% increments and puts a lot of the sim off the screen at the top and bottom.

I did think there was a Windows Power Tool to sort it but I can't find one with a setting that will just alter the dialogue boxes font.

Hmm, that sounds like a magnifying glass thing rather than the DPI setting. I have eyesight issues and a few months ago bought a hires monitor, 3840x2160, but with a 200% DPI so the effective resolution is more like 1920x1080. But the fonts are very clear. The sims don't go off-screen though.

Geoff,

I've partially solved the problem using a donation-ware utility called Winaero Tweaker altering what they call the "Message Font"

I can get certain Simsig messages in a bigger font like the first attachment below, but others (sadly the most important ones) remain smaller and - for me - difficult to read.

I would guess that the second is a core-code message and the first (larger) is a sim-specific message, is that correct?

All messages are generated by the core code, though for some the content is fully or partially specified by sim-specific data. The wording in the first message is entirely in the core code; that in the second is constructed from the train data and the sim data (the location name).

In this case, the first message is a popup, which uses a Delphi built-in (Dialogs.ShowMessagePos) while the second is using a Delphi form (just like the timetable editor forms). I don't know the history behind the choice. I can say, however, that the need to construct a string from data is not part of it.

As someone with 20/20 vision, I would also like the font to be a bit bigger, if-not bold please!
