Sorry Vince. Just trying to help. I have problems reading. I am going blind.

Barry,

I'm sorry, I wasn't aware of that and the tone of my response should have been more gentle.

Please accept my apologies.

Classic case of not being able to please everybody. Others asked for the messages to be added to the incident log so the times therein would not be lost in a busy message window.

I'll have a think.
Sometime back I put in a suggestion in Mantis to have Saves include all messages that are in the Message Window. This would eliminate adding theses Crew messages to F7 window and on restart of a sim you would have all messages from the start of the sim.

Mantis 16446 / 17458/ #16446 reassigned.

Although not a solution, a little thing that may help a player play an ARS sim.
Any Train that displays in its ARS status "Join planned at Rxxxxx", Just right click the Train's TD and click "Make Train ARS" and the ARS should go back to normal operation.

I offer NO guarantee that you won't have to do that multiple times for the same train.

I have the same issue starting today after I installed the latest updates.

The sim I was playing was LTS and many trains were stopping out of course with ARS saying "Join planned at R[signal the train was already at]"

Not sure what the issue is but it means the sim is unplayable with one person!
Just a quick question, did you make any changes to the default LTS 2014 timetable? or are you using a custom made LTS timetable.

Custom made, only to delete the freight as I wanted to test decimating the c2c service!

However... I loaded up the save file and now the issue of waiting for trains that have already long gone, and the above "Join planned at Rxxx" messages have not turned up again and I have been playing it in bits and I'm currently at 2pm, so not sure what is going on...

Hi all,

Just wondering if anyone can say whether there is likely to be an early fix to the ARS 'join planned at....' issue. Not impatient, just would like to know where to put my timetabling time to best effect while I'm waiting.

I would say that until the cause is found it maybe some time, From the testing I have done I have gotten mixed results with no aparent cause to why it is coming up.

I have ran an ARS sim with one TT never had an issue, ran the same sim with a different TT got the issue, then to try an confirm I reran with the TT and never got an issue.

An earlier suggesting I made is that any train that seems to dispplay the "Join planned at xxxxx" message is to right click the TD and select "Make train ARS" and the ARS seems to go back to normal, But it may crop up again later in the journey, so you may have to repeat the process.

Mark,

Thank you.

Your results are similar to mine - there seems to be no consistency as to as, when, where and why it occurs.

As you'll be aware Version 1.04 of Peterborough 1977 is at the testing stage but there's not a lot I can do while this issue persists. However, I'm testing another Peterborough timetable for someone else and the error has only occurred once in many hours of running it.

Its an odd one, certainly.

Thank you again.

Vince

I believe I have fixed the ARS "join planned at XXX" message. It seems to have been an uncaught uninitialised variable which was why it was so random. Just going through some more testing and it should be ready in a day or two.

Geoff,

Thank you for your work on this - at least it gave me a break from timetable testing to actually play Simsig for a while.

I hope to get Peterborough 1977 Version 1.04 ready by mid-January.

Compliments of the season

The information overload has been bugging me for days now while I am trying to get a busy timetable tested. Given the desire of SimSig to be as near to the real life experience as possible, what actually happens about crew changes out there? Presumably there is a phone call from the driver advising of his availability after which it is up to the signaller what he does with that information (post-it note, scrap of paper notebook or plain old memory). Then after that what messages are passed?

There is a quite possibly a case to be made that none of the crew change stuff should show in either message or incident report windows as the real-life signaller wouldn't have that information but would only have what he/she had taken on board as the result of a phone call.

I'm not saying that would be welcome to a lot of SimSig users but can I ask what sort of direction is being taken in regard to the reduction of the information overload.

It's certainly nice to have this message in the log but maybe we can act just like phonecalls for delayed trains: log the message without a flashing printer indicator, because the phone already flashes sufficiently when the crew announces its time of arrival.

As a former driver and now controller, when I was relieving a train somewhere I would not contact the signaller to advise that I was there, in fact the only time the signaller would be aware that I was handing over to a different driver is if I was reporting that the new driver wasn't in place (in order to allow replacement of the signal to free up potential other routes), or if a wrong route had been given, i.e through line vice platform that meant the new driver would be unable to get to the train.

As a controller I would only advise a signaller of a crew change if things were likely to be in the wrong order or a crew member was on a late running service and would not be in place.

There is an instruction at Victoria ASC regarding north bound services with a crew change in he schedule at Willesden Jn High level.
If the schedule shows a crew stop at Willesden Jn High Level the signaller contacts the driver and confirms whether or not he/she gets relief at the "High Level". If they do the train id held in the middle road at Keny O if under 1.263 ft in length or Latchmere Jn if longer until the relief driver phones the signaller on panel 2a or the Shift Manager to confirm that they are in position at the "High Level".

Going back to the 90s,train crew would not notify the signaller unless something out of the ordinary was happening at that moment of time.

If running to plan we just got on with the job,if crew illness struck the SOP would alert those who needed that information.Often the first the signaller knew about any change was when he was informed that 2N30 etc was not running.

Can the ECS be run into the Carriage sidings etc.

If we had to report our arrival at a given point to the signaller it would be contained within our duty docket.

At Derby many, (but not all) drivers would ring the box (either panel or back desk) to let us know they were in the mess room on Pfm 1, or occasionally at 4 Shed. As most (but not all) freights through Derby at that time (1990's) had relief there, if we hadn't heard from any fwd crew either the signalman, or occasionally the back desk if the signalman was busy, would ring the mess room (or the Train Crew Supervisor at 4 Shed) and ask if there was a crew for whichever train. If they were there, they'd be told where to go (one of the platforms or DY449 Up Goods, DY458 Dn Goods or DY436 Up Goods West) to relieve their train. If not the train would be looped. When the driver of the looped freight came on the Signal Post Telephone he would be told there was no relief for him yet and he would then advise if he was booked relief or right away. If booked relief he could often tell us what his relief was working in or whether he was arriving by road (many Toton men came across in the Toton service car), and the signalman would then run or hold him back as necessary.

The one signalling sim that most closely represents the way it happens in real life is the Signalsoft simulation of Fulda signalbox in Germany. Many freights get relief at Fulda (in real life and in the sim), and in the sim the train list window (similar to Simsig F4 window) shows which trains are booked relief. If a train which is booked relief is getting close and the forward driver hasn't called you, you loop the train, if he has called, you can keep the train running. When the fwd driver does call in a drop-down list of alternative relieving locations is available (Fulda station is the normal relieving point) so you can select one of these if the station is a bit congested, but you must factor in walking time to the alternative location. The sim Wiki page also advise you to keep a notebook handy to note down all the drivers who have called in, which is essential, especially during the night when most of the endless stream of freights in both directions get relief.

Regards,

Phil.
