Currently awaiting approval is my first venture into TT creation, which turned into a baptism of fire! With engineering work between Piccadilly and Oxford Road, the sim is effectively split into two - so I created this with the aim of making an interesting (and hopefully single player) TT. Currently only the south side of Piccadilly is represented - this will be extended to include movements on the north side in due course. Please see the TT description below:

A timetable based on the workings around Piccadilly on Saturday 30th December 2017.

On this day, track renewal was taking place on Platform 14, with the possession taking platforms 9-14 and subsequently creating a block between Piccadilly and Oxford Road.

In effect, a normal Saturday service operated from the main station:

Northern local services as usual but with no through services from Oxford Road; these terminated there. New Mills services were curtailed to Marple to create paths for diverted EMT services.

TPE services between Manchester Airport/Piccadilly and the Transpennine routes. Scotland services ran to Victoria; the Scarborough-Liverpool services were curtailed to Piccadilly. In addition, a trial passenger run involving 68003 and 68030 top and tailing the ex-Pretendolino MkIIIs ran in the evening between Piccadilly and the Airport, with associated ECS moves from Crewe CS (in the TT as an Arriva push-pull set as it was the closest match I could get for speed and length!).

ATW services from South Wales ran as normal with the North Wales services terminating at Oxford Road.

Virgin Trains ran the usual 3tph schedule.

Cross Country ran their usual 2tph schedule.

EMT's Norwich-Liverpool services were curtailed to Piccadilly, and also ran via New Mills and Ashburys instead of Stockport.

My observations on the day were that most trains were routes on the fast lines between Slade Lane and Ardwick junctions regardless of booked line; I suspect this is due to it being slightly easier due to less restrictive overlaps and higher line speeds over the crossovers; though at points in the afternoon it seems most trains were routed along the slow lines instead. Note that regardless of which line you choose to use, trains MUST be routed back to the fast or eastern lines after MP307 as the possession commences immediately after the crossover just beyond this signal.

6Z95 operated on the day with top-and-tail FL Class 66s and JNA wagons; in reality it sat just within the possession roughly between MP1125 and MP349 on the down slow; however for ease of timetabling I've put it into the Mayfield Goods Loop to berth. It did make some moves within the possesion late at night but I have no detail on these.

Please note that I have copied the WTT where possible, even when this uses the platforms that weren't in use that day! Where the WTT inbound/outbound workings don't pair, I have kept the inbound working as per the WTT and matched the outbound working to avoid any errors with the TT analysis. Don't be bound by the platforms; my observations and data show that for the most part platforms were altered to ensure everything went out in the right order - and even then it didn't always go to plan during the day!

5R18 was stabled in the holding siding for most of the day before operating 2R18 starting at Ashburys (I'm not sure what happened to the inbound working but suspect it got swapped onto a Chester diagram) - for the most part I've avoided adding in some of the disruptions of the day but this was properly timetabled into my data so easy to add. Otherwise for the purpose of this time table, all trains ran as booked.

Some joins/divides are fictional where I can't work out exactly what came from where, especially the Newton Heath arrivals and departures as I don't have any diagramming information for these. At present, stock diagramming is also fictional but prototypical. I aim to add the Northern diagramming information at a later date when I expand this TT to cover the north side of the simulation.

This should be played in 2016 mode, with platform 4 at Manchester Airport.


Any bugs or questions please report here. I've attached a screenshot of what signals, lines and platforms were out of action - players can obviously opt to 'reintroduce' platforms for an easier shift if they so desire!

I have just uploaded the full version of this (awaiting approval). With 1408 trains in total it isn't quite the easy timetable I had in mind when I started creating it; though at least I didn't attempt the Monday version with a full service and the same possession limitations!

On the north side, bear in mind that infrastructure has changed even since the 2016 version of this sim - particuarly around the Deansgate and Salford Crescent area. The Ordsall Chord was put into use in December 2016, but on this day only saw 3 ECS moves due to space being at a premium at Oxford Road. Along with the Chord, bi-directional working came into use between Oxford Road and Salford Crescent - this isn't simulated though some trains may have used it on the day. My data for Salford Crescent (and Bolton) is incomplete, so platforms shown may not be entirely accurate and may show what was used rather than what was booked. This area is now controlled from the Manchester Central panel in the Manchester ROC at Ashburys.

Bolton has also changed from what is simulated - the Burnden Loops have been removed; however Bolton has gained a platform 5 fed from the remains of the down loop though it was not in use on this day. Some other minor alterations have taken place in the area though shouldn't have any significant impact on the WTT.

Both the 'South side' and 'full' versions of this TT have been brought up to date and re-released to take advantage of ARS operation and new layouts available in the sim.

ARS is not recommended for the Piccadilly throat area due to the divergences from booked platforms required throughout the day and layout limitations if the sim is played as per the screenshot above as ARS won't always give appropriate priority, and can't deal with the ad-hoc platform changes required from the WTT. However it does work well for the north side of the sim when playing the 'full' version.
