Hello

Only been using SimSig for a week or so, so very green and hoping that the problem outlined below is not of my own making! I am having trouble with 1Y01 the overnight Euston to Fort William Sleeper.

It enters the sim ok from Gartsherrie Jc. and passes through Platform 1 at Springburn. However, when it arrives at its' booked stop in Eastfield DPL (to reverse to Queen Street) the status line in the Train List shows it stopped at Sig.CE230 (which appears to be correct). The Location column though shows it still at Springburn Platform 1.

This means that although 0Y01 is able to reverse into the Eastfield DPL it will not couple to 1Y01.

I have tried this three times now and the result has been the same although on one occasion 1Y01 showed its location as Cowlairs West Jc. as opposed to Platform 1 at Springburn.

I have tried running this once in the Central Scotland Sim and it worked perfectly.

Any help to resolve this would be much appreciated.

There appears to be a bug with the simulation that's preventing trains from Springburn registering that they've passed Cowlairs West Jn.

To work around the problem:

Open F2, right-clicking 1Y01, then selecting Timetable Options-> Edit Timetable. In the window that opens, click on the third tab ('Location List'), click 'Eastfield DPL' once to highlight it in blue and then click 'Set Next/Current location'. This should make the train register its arrival at Eastfield DPL.

Thank you very much for that Steamer - worked fine!

Very impressed with this sim so far - only downside that I can see is that some areas like Motherwell for instance can only realistically be played online.

Thanks once again!

Motherwell does feature ARS, so you can set some areas of the simulation to run automatically while you focus on your chosen part of the area.

(I've raised the issue on the bug tracker; #19878 for those with access.)

When did the Fort William sleeper reverse down Cowlairs bank into High Level, only to depart again up the bank?

I thought that in the 1984 era of the simulation, it went directly from the E & G main line, (is it Cowlairs East Junction to Cowlairs North?), and that was the whole reason why it had to make its "Glasgow" stop at Westerton - but you could get a connection to Westerton from Low Level.

Now, forced by the wiring works on the E & G, as 1Y11, it takes the Bathgate to Airdrie line, and stops at Queen Street Low Level, and no longer at Westerton.

That will come with time. As you get more experienced even quite complex sims can be played single handed and there are very few that only belong in the realms of multi-play.

I suspect it stopped running via Queen Street when they rationalised the sleepers to the two services from Euston. Certainly back in the 80s when I did a lot of Freedom of Scotland rovers the sleeper ran via GLQ with and in effect became the first train of the day from Glasgow QS (05.50 departure) to Fort Bill.

There's a bit of history here - pretty much as I remember it.

The FW Sleepers ran from Kings Cross (portion of 1S60?) until at least May 1976 but by/from May 1978 they formed a portion of 1S25 Euston to Inverness. This was still the case at the beginning of May 1987, according to the WTT's I have at my disposal. I have no idea when they went back to running via Edinburgh.

I think the main shakeup was 1991 along with sprinters.
The 1993 timetable had a stand-alone Fort William via Edinburgh - see Edinburgh sim

As for the initial query, there has been a sim update of locations around Cowlairs West Jn. I have not yet checked through on the 1993 and 1984 timetables for adverse effects.
It could be related to that.
I will look, but probably in a couple of weeks.

To confirm problems at Cowlairs with the following trains in 1984:
0Y01, 0A98, 5N79, 0M16

Also 5Y13 in 1993

These are due to a sim update that was needed to fix a more fundamental problem with the new 2016 timetable.
In summary 'Cowlairs West (rev)' location has been altered so any train that used that location needs an edit.

Updated Cowlairs and CSCOT 1984 & 1993 are imminent, but as user timetables these do not come out through updates. they have to be picked up manually either here, as new downloads, or direct.

1993 timetables are released for Cowlairs and CSCOT - see file
CSCOT:
https://www.SimSig.co.uk/File/Download/1116
COW
https://www.SimSig.co.uk/File/Download/1117

In both cases this is the 'for loader data 4.3' file

1984 still has a sim bug / feature problem with long trains departing Queen St.
