Loader 4.6.12 issue with Kings Cross Sim 11/03/2018 at 01:23 #106637

I've updated the loader as the Loader said it had updates for me so because I like to ensure it's kept up to date, I clicked on the Updates button however...

I now get this error message when I try to load Kings Cross from the loader and it's missing a great number of timetables I downloaded yesterday evening - why am I getting this error message and is there a update to fix this issue?

The timetables in your Timetable Folder are not compatible with this Loader. I suspect that you have selected the old original WTT/WTR tables that ran with KingsX.exe.

This might help you, in the quoted thread, start KX with no timetable, perfect mode then follow the instructions in the link.

When I select Kings Cross in the loader, it gives me the error twice then it gives me a few timetables that I can use however the fact remains that even before I select any timetable, it gives me that error twice so surely it should be raised as a Mantis issue?

As to the Merge TT workaround, I did that successfully but as I explained above, I had to accept the error twice - please note I have NEVER come across this error before and at the moment no other sims are affected to the best of my knowledge.

I really don't want to uninstall SimSig but I might have to and reinstall it over again which isn't fun!

It may be something specific to your system. I have just opened the loader and had three tries at loading KX (old layout with TT, old layout without TT and new layout without TT). None of those generated any sort of error message.

It may be that the KX sim file has been corrupted as the .sim files are built to a .zip structure. To check that out, re-name your existing KingsX.sim file (maybe something like KingsX.old). Then open the loader. Even if there is no red flash on the check for updates button, click on it anyway. If you are not prompted to download the KX sim after the manifest has been parsed, click on the Advanced button and you should see the KX file. Update from there and with any luck the problem will have been solved.

That doesn't do anything as I still have the issue, I've even uninstalled, reinstalled Kings Cross 3 times and still get this error.

I think the best thing is to uninstall SimSig and reinstall tomorrow, hopefully that will cure it.

One last thought (or desperate clutch at a passing straw). Are there any downloaded zip files in your KX TT folder from which you have extracted the TTs? If so, you could try shifting the zip files to a separate "downloads" folder in case the core code is reading the zip files and trying to extract sim data from them.

Finally, how did you uninstall KX. Did you just delete the .sim file or did you also take out the KX folders (and contents) in the Simulation and Timetable folders. If you just wiped out the .sim file then the cause of the problem may still be sitting in one of the KX folders. If you move or rename the KX folders as well then reinstall using the updater and then find you can open the sim without error, then you can move the stuff back to the live KX folders one item at a time until you find the rogue file.

I'm doing a brand new install of SimSig, luckily the timetables I downloaded are organised in my OneDrive so shouldn't take long to copy across.

It might help if you could specify which timetables you are having issues with.

Easier still, just point the Loader at Onedrive? I do that with Dropbox

Shame we'll never find out what the problem was as it may have enabled others to avoid the problem in future.

It's not the timetables that at fault, it's the actual sim.

Really, never thought of that before :)
But you're not giving anyone any information. It's very unlikely it was the .sim file at fault.

I found out what the issues were at long last and here they are:

1. The timetable named Kings Cross Closure instigated the error, once deleted the sim behaved as it ought to - please note I checked this a number of times with the same result every time.

2. A number of timetables in the correct folder will not come up when I select Kings Cross, they are there in the folder but for some reason won't display as being available - why is this?

Is it simply because they are non loader ready?

It's probably because they're in the old format. To load them, start a new simulation with no timetable, then go to Timetable-> Open (merge with current) and select the timetable. Then go to Timetable-> Save As to save it. The timetable should now appear when you start a new game.

This has been reported numerous times and has a Mantis ticket about it (#18884).

Confirmed that TT is causing error message. Reported through Mantis to get the download blocked until the author can re-submit a working version.

I've done just that and I can now play a few more timetables, thanks for the tip!

Could you please explain how you 'point' the Loader at Onedrive, or any other specific drive for that matter. I've had a quick look and I'm afraid that it's not obvious to me and probably isn't to other computer novices either.

Thanks

Bugsy.

Using the select folder options button, then the add button in the loader.

I've put it back to "waiting for approval".

I've raised Mantis 19931 for getting better behaviour (i.e. file names in messages) when the Loader runs into a bad zip file.
