Some 4 years after I first had the idea, a fictional loco-hauled TT for NEScot is now available to download. This WTT gives the layout a much more thorough work-out than modern TTs! I've attached a pdf 'printed version' of the timetable to this post.

Please read the description before playing, and leave any questions, comments or bug reports below. Enjoy!

Description

This is a fictional timetable for the North East Scotland simulation, based around loco-hauled workings, and with significantly more freight than the present day. The scenario assumes that all local yards receive a daily stopping freight, and that the major towns handle large freight volumes.

A PDF copy of the timetable is provided, which may assist regulating decisions.

You are strongly advised to read the accompanying TT notes, and to run the timetable in 'Beginner' mode when you first play it, due to the potential knock-on effect of delays.

Passenger traffic consists of a train every two hours from Glasgow and Edinburgh to Aberdeen (giving an hourly service north of Dundee), an hourly DMU service from Edinburgh to Dundee via Cupar, and a service every two hours between Edinburgh and Peth, and between Dundee and Arbroath. Additional services work to Aberdeen, and to Inverness, but these do not follow a clockface pattern. Some services combine/split at Perth. In addition, sleeper, parcel, motorail, milk and fish traffic is present.

Freight traffic is based on the assumption that Perth North, Dundee East Reception and Craiginches Up as the main yards in those towns, and almost all long-distance freight services work to these yards. Trip workings serve Perth South, Camperdown, Craiginches Down, Craiginches North, Guild St and Waterloo. Stopping freight services call at intermediate sidings, which in some cases are assumed to be larger than simulated. Montrose receives additional aggregate and fish services, while a fuel train serves Tay Bridge and Leuchars RAF. Leuchars RAF is also served by MOD trains.

Location Specific Notes

Perth: Trains booked to join in Perth P4 must be signalled on shunt aspects through the platform; otherwise, the intermediate shunt signals can get stuck in preset shunt mode, making it impossible to signal a joining train in- I've found that it's possible to crash the simulation attempting to cancel and re-set a preset shunt signal.
Motorail flats being loaded/unloaded must use platform 5, as this platform has the ramp!

Montrose: The HS is extremely short; unless specifically timetabled to use this siding, any trains reversing at Montrose South must use the main line.

Laurencekirk: The DRS is too short to loop freight trains.

Aberdeen: The station pilot is used to shunt stock around the station; these workings have the description AP followed by the movement number.
There is a regular shunt move (0S03) that runs from the Up Yard, into the HS and back again. No phone call is required when routing the train back in. Although A13 and A14 can be cleared at the same time, you MUST NOT do this in version 4.2.2 of the simulation (the version in use when this timetable was released); the route from A14 will prevent trains entering from the Up Yard.
The Up Goods has a 5mph speed limit; it's faster to send trains via the Up Main. In particular, the morning motorail shunts with the Aberdeen station pilot should use the Up Main, as they're tightly timed.

Trip Freight Descriptions

Class 6 is used for movements with a main line loco, shunt moves and local trips have Class 9 descriptions.

Where? The pdf attached to the first post is included in the download file, along with the .WTT file.

Was this pdf supposed to update an original dated 21/9/2017?

Great timetable which is very absorbing. I really do prefer timetables which are challenging like this one. Well done.

I seem to have hit a snag with a train wishing to go from Stonehaven station to Stonehaven Sidings 1. I cant figure out how you can reverse the points to achieve this movement as there is no backing signal at the location. Anyone know how this is done ?

Per this page in the manual- click the green circle, then the relevant exit arrow/signal- this represents the signaller waving a green flag for the train, as there is no signal to control the move in reality.

(Same applies at Carmont for the overnight test run)

Many thanks Steamer. I did look at the manual but didn't notice that note and I did click on the circle with no effect. But I did not think to click the circle and the entrance signal of the sidings. Having great fun with this TT and still hours to go. Just shows that there is plenty of potential in SimSig without the need to devise more and more new simulations with repetitive and tedious trains that simply move one way across the sim.

I've just downloaded this TT, I'm up to 0315 and thoroughly enjoying it, especially the use of moves that don't get used in modern TT's. I even figured out the shunt move at Carmont with the loco on test after a bit of head-scratching and two reads of the sim notes.

The notes in the TT 'General' tab and Steamer's original post advise reading the included text file but when I downloaded the zip file I found the .txt file is blank. No issues with the TT though, great work.

Phil.

Glad you're enjoying it. Not sure what happened to the text file, but it'd only supposed to contain the notes in the first post of this thread and the timetable description; you aren't missing anything.

OK thhats fine. I just thought there were were one or two extra notes on top of whhat was contained in the thread and the front of the TT.

3A92 will not attach as booked to 3A11 in the Down Dundee Loop, it just flashes the message '3A11 in front' in the F2 window.

I've attached a save.

Phil.

Edit - Selecting Perth Dundee Loop as 'Current/Next Location' for both trains in the F2 window (even tough that was where they were both showing) worked the second time of trying.

Not sure what caused that- I shunted forward with 3A92 and they started joining.

Just to warn you, 3A11 running approx 35 minutes late is almost certainly going to have a knock-on with the station pilot moves when it reaches Aberdeen. I'd consider re-starting from an earlier save.

You've also got an issue with 5B21- you need to either manually reverse 5B21 so that it shunts up to join 0B21-1, or abandon the TT on 0B21-1, tell it to shunt forward, authorise it to pass P137, then when it's moving re-instate the timetable to get it to join.

I've also noticed 0B21 has not attached to 5B21 after running round, despite both trains showing in Pfm.4. Asking 0B21 to shunt forward and editing the current/next locations in F2 are not working.

Edit - Reversing 5B21 from the Down to the Up direction initiated the attachment.

See my post above. As per the TT notes, anything booked to split/join in P4 must be signalled using the shunt signals only, otherwise the intermetidate shunts in the platform get stuck in pre-set mode and won't let you signal call-ons.

It's quite an unusual set-up in platform 4; it caught me out once or twice while testing.

Just to check, as we appear to have been typing at the same time as each other- did you see my post at 20:55, about the late running of 3A11?

No I didn't. I'll have a look back now.
I've just read it re potential problems at Aberdeen. I'm up to 0915 now and things are relatively smooth there, so I think I dodged a bullet.

I have to say this is a belter of a TT, it really brings this sim to life with all the trip working and shunt moves not seen with more modern TT's.
