When opening the SimSig Loader just recently I've been getting a dialog box open with the message "The log file C:\Users\Public\Documents\Simsig\Simsig Loader0.log is getting large. Press Ignore to continuewith this file or Retry to start a new log file."

What is causing this to happen?

Regards,

Phil.

The log file is too large. Press retry to start a new log file. Or press continue to proceed with an oversized file.

Ruddy Hell Phil someone that opens the loader more than me. Since the loader and log files were introduced I dread to think how many times I've opened them up but never seen that message before, but then my openings do tend to be for TT importing etc and not actual long running sessions, which will be why your files are so big.

Beware that it starts off a new C:\Users\Public\Documents\Simsig\Simsig Loader0.log file, over-writing the existing file. If there is any data in the existing file you wish to retain you have to copy or move that file to another location before starting the new log file.

The over-writing without warning was raised as Mantis 16056 and is still an open bug.

You mean a feature request. It's working as intended.

"Open bug" was shorthand for an item on Mantis that had not been actioned or closed. Apologies for the mis-wording.

To be honest, until the other day I'd never even noticed the existence of the log files. I notice that I have accrued 7 or 8 up to now over a period of years, all numbered sequentially, so why has SimSig stopped creating new ones and gives me this warning message instead?

It only creates a new one if it can't open an existing one for some reason. The usual reason for this is because it's already open in another instance of SimSig or in an editor. If you look at the timestamps you'll probably see that log 0 is recent but the others aren't.

The truncation and warning message is a separate, new, thing because logs were getting very large.

Yes Clive, the 'Date Modified" column does show most of them were created a long time ago. THanks for the explanation.
